real world mpg on 3.4 991
use the engine stop feature with city driving. it'll give you a few extra mpg. less cold starts by chaining your errands will help too. city driving really kills mpg so try to find back roads that aren't congested. you'll get better mileage and have more fun also.
btw, don't get over 3k rpm until engine is up to temperature.

Here's the latest on the MPG
- 297 miles 14.96 Gallons (US) = 19.9 mpg
I just got in my car, drove 1.5 miles to a 65 MPH highway, went 23.4 miles, got off and drove one more mile on the surface streets and got 30.4 MPG. Then it got much hotter (95 degrees) and I drove back home and got 29.3. I was not in sport mode and the tires are at comfort pressure.

I picked up my car this morning after dealer servicing and drove it home (18.1 miles) using cruise control on the highway. About half the distance was at the 60 MPH speed limit and half at the 65 MPH speed limit. The attached is the result shown on the management system. I've got to say that 35.6 MPG (USA) is not bad for a car that does 0-60 in slightly over 4 seconds.

Don't forget breakin
I only got 14.8 mpg on my most recent tank. This is 90% city driving and consists of many short trips. That being said I am still shocked at how low it is. I don't rev the engine that much and often shift around 3rpms and usually drive in sport mode. Does sport really increase fuel consumption that much or is my car an anomoly
I wanted to pull out the iPhone and take a pic - my car showed 148 mpg after just resetting and coasting down a big high speed hill.
I'm averaging 24 highway @90 and only 15 in town, but thats with sport and some hard driving.
I'm satisfied and I don't even have 1k on it yet.

After reading the posts above it seems to me that the only factor we have not discussed is tire pressure. I have been getting 25-28 on highways and rural roads using 36/44 inflation as listed on the door post

Running 36/44 PSI in the tires, I just got 29.8 MPG on a trip last week. Covered about 375 miles. used the cruise control on the highway set at 77 MPH. Trip was through Vermont, so not a lot of flat land was covered!
Engines need around 5000 miles before optimal mileage is achieved.

Yep, you could do that on an 18.1 mile hill but you would be fooling yourself wouldn't you? The point of my post was to show how 18.1 miles turned out over 18 miles of flat road, no wind and cool (85 deg) air.
If you travel < a few miles after cold start and / or operate in a hilly environment plan on getting <20 MPG. That would be true in any gas only powered auto. If you use sport it only adds to the consumption and if you keep your RPMs high, you're using extra fuel also. And that may be fine if you understand it and make that decision.
My experience on the roads I drive is that my 991 is 15-25% more fuel efficient when driving for efficiency than my 2009 997S.

PS: The best mileage is not at 5000 (that's more like power and torque). The reason Porsche has a seven speed is to get the cruise RPM down in the 1800 RPM range at highway speed. They don't even use 7th gear for top speed.

I am somewhat confused why anybody driving a Porsche is even measuring fuel consumption except to figure out when they have to refill that gas tank. It's like... I am buying a Hummer but I want to get 30 miles per gallon and it's only doing 7 miles per gallon. I am pissed because the book says it should do 8.2567 miles per gallon. How can you get your Porsche to sound loud an wailing unless you get up there in the revs. That means you are not driving for economy you are driving it hard to enjoy . Just because you can!! Just sayin' ... LOL

31.8 mpg.
77 degrees F.
travel time 2 hours
distance: 92.2 miles
average speed 50 mph.
Trip from Pennsylvania to South [New] Jersey shore.
Total mileage at trip end was 1750 miles
tire inflation 36/44 at 60 degrees.
This car is freakkkking amazing. Cruises steady and in total control at 85 mph....this is my first Porsche and every day I am more and more impressed by the handling, control, speed, acceleration and just about everything.
...only one significant problem to date...I have acquired a care washing fetish..

On the other hand... my VW Jetta Sportswagon Diesel TDI is doing marginally better. Like 42 miles per gallon without nanny's, electric motors and all that -will-break-stuff-.. Horses for courses!!

To be absolutely honest, fuel economy for my fun car doing 2000-3000 miles per year is the least of my worries. It's going to cost me the whopping great sum of... holy schmoly... $ 1,000.00 bucks per year (at 15 miles per gallon for 3000 miles at 5 bucks per gallon).
