PSE Intermittently failing?

Hi All:

I am very near 2000 miles and can finally further deploy the capabilities of this car. Stated simply, I highly enjoy it.

The PSE is an amazing feature and one that I wish was permanently engaged. I have not driven with it off - ever - well, except when it doesn't work!

It seems of late that 1 out of every 9-10 starts, the sound does not change with the push of the button. I always turn it on when I start the car and can easily tell when it's working or not. It always self corrects a start or two later, but still very annoying that it is failing somewhat frequently. Turning the button off and on later in that same start does not make a difference.

Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

OMG! I have the same problem.
It happened usually after I filled up. I am suspecting it could be the gas stations using cheaper gas than the stated octane 91. I certainly hope it is the gas station.

I will let you know next time I fill up.

I don't think gas would have any effect on the PSE.

I have 1200 miles on the clock and have been noticing that the PSE doesn't always switch on at the push of the button. This happened to me Friday night at a car cruise when I was demonstrating the system.

Mine always turns on and sounds great! No problem there. However I do notice that in sport plus mode it is much quieter and does not crackle and burp when I let off the gas like it does in sport mode. Not sure if that is normal or not, but thought I'd add my observations in case it was relevant.

Had similar problem on my 2011 Cab, dealer replaced a defective component board related to the PSE.

I think it's a pressure-driven system, i.e. when you're at idle and turn it on, you may not notice the sound right away until you hit the throttle.

I have not had any issues with PSE turning on. It is a noisy beast. But rarely, if ever, do I turn it on via the exhaust button. It is always by entering a sport mode which happens regularly. The car is hardly competitive in regular mode, and sport mode is only slightly better. Frankly sport mode is a disappointment and not noticeably faster than regular mode. Sport + turns the car in to another animal. This mode frankly is absolutely necessary even if you need to take on one of those small VW gti cars.

I believe there is a vacuum line that actuates it- the same one that opens the "sound symposer" to let intake noise into the car.

I had the same problem with my car, took it to the dealer and they replaced one side of the muffler. Don't ignore it, 5 years later no problems and loving the sound of PSE.

Thanks for the great feedback, everyone. I am going to take it in and have them take a look. I can definitely tell the difference between when it is on or not, so I know it's not a scenario where it's on and I just can't tell. I think it's just not engaging properly on occasion. My new approach has been to wait a bit before pressing the button, rather than just jumping to it on a cold start. That seems to be working a bit better. I will keep the group posted on what I hear from the dealership.

Thanks!

yes there should be two actuation flaps for the mufflers...if one flap doesn't move, you will get considerably less sound.
