There is not much to do there, there are all the car companies test buildings, a few some restaurants and all the track facilities.
Check online to see when they are have open lapping, the hours are strange. We went last September and most open lapping hours were weekdays from 4-6pm.
Its not that far from Dusseldorf, which is a very nice city.
Have a great time!!!

I go at least once a year for the last 10 years and mainly stay in Koblenz which is a very attractive town with a river flowing through it. Bonn is 46km away while Cologne is about 68km away and its not that far away with the roads in Germany.
Thanks for info, I know Germany quite well as I normally get there several times a year, Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, Hamburg, and Stuttgart but never have been to Nürburgring and thought I would go there on this trip. I have visited Pcar factory and Museum 6-7 times over the years.

The crazy thing is they allow anybody and everybody on the track at the same time, if it has a motor and wheels you can drive the track. This in addition to the rain is why I choose not to do laps on Tuesday. I wasn't so afraid that I couldn't handle the track as I was more afraid what others might do to wreck my rented S550. One positive in Germany is that everyone drives fast and they have strict road rules, no passing on right, slow traffic always stays to the right these rules are enforced on the track.

It is about 25 EUROS per lap, they have their pricing online.

I drove on the German autobahns for 3 years in the early 80s so I know they are good drivers, but this really does seem over the top.

Out of curiosity, how much is it to rent an S550 over there?
It cost me about 500 Euros including gas, for three days and 1,000km. I get some very special discounts from Hertz as a high value customer so think it might be 30-40% more for most HERTZ customers. Please do not take this as a brag, just providing the facts.
either way, if it was rwd you would have had a blast even in the rain.
just dont ask me how
