Decided to take the day off and go for a drive

Spring is definitely here and it was a great opportunity to get past 500 miles. We decided this morning to take a scenic route to "Skyline Drive" - those of you that don't know it's suppose to be one of the most scenic drives in the US. Well it took about 45 min to get to the entrance and then was hit with 25 mph speed limit followed by 35 mph and then back to 25 mph, well you get the pattern. On the one hand it was a beautiful drive but on the other hand it was soooo boring... So to my wife's annoyance, I decided to hit the sport+ button and see how many folks I could irritate with rev matching between 3rd and 2nd - I also found out that 25 to 35 mph was very fast in a 991 . Had a chance to take some scenic photos... of the car

After about an hour of this childish fun, we decided to go get some grub and headed to horse country (that is in VA) at the Ashby Inn - then headed back through boring traffic but it was a great day and had lots of fun experiencing the car... Here are some nice pics. Oh I almost forgot, those of you that are observant (probably all of you) will notice I have a gopro attached. Well that didn't turn out so great - I hit the button and when I got back I realized that I had it set to take pictures . Lesson learned for the track days of the future...

Well done! The Skyline is a beautiful drive... especially on a glorious spring day. We drove its entirety and then on to the Blue Ridge Parkway last year and loved it. It is truly a wonderful part of the country.

Thanks for sharing and posting the pics. The car is of course stupendous!

It looks like you took a great day off. I'll have to do some research on the skyline drive, since I've never been and would like too now by the looks of it. Thank you for posting up pictures and sharing your experience.

When you mentioned the speed limits it reminded me of the Top Gear BBC episode.

Great pics.

Yep, really nice drive. I certainly had the 3 sportscars doing 25-35-25-35 in mind as well when I was out there with my son a few weeks back.

So looking into the ticket policy there after the drive, it looks like a ticket there may not go onto the VA points / insurance record, but it is a felony (assuming I understood it correctly). Hmmm, not sure which sounds worse.

Based on comments on some biking forums, enforcement is a bit laxer during the week, particularly when it's still cooler out, and 10 or even 15 may go; less so on the weekend. 35 is actually reasonable for some corners where you could have hikers / tourists with cameras crossing the road, though it's definitely somewhat crazy for some of the straighter spots where you might hope to at least see 45.

Not posting specifically why I might have researched that after the drive since that sounds as wise as putting stuff on Facebook, but no, I didn't get a ticket and certainly wasn't doing anything like the motorcycles (! ).

Haha, that was a great episode. Cold, merciless sarcasm on Clarkson's part.

Great looking car, ae911! Congratulations, a day well spent!

Thanks Haku, and interesting piece of trivia is that this road was built as part of FDRs getting the country back to work post-depression... still they could have built separate paths for the hikers ...

Thanks mate... Come on mate, you need to order the steering wheel because that's the second time you have commented on it . After all you are the king of mods...

Exactly! I was saying the same thing to my significant other...

It was an interesting discussion when I said that we really need a road where we can go a little bit faster. She proceeded to say: "that's what tracks are for".
