Luckily Ferrari still has the soul of Enzo floating around the factory and they didn't let Fiat interfere to much. Alfa on the other hand is completely Fiatized....

VW is bidding for about 5 years now to buy Alfa without succes. I hate to say t but I think Alfa would be better off with VW as they are with Fiat. Buildquality has been a main issue for a long time and that's where VW's strongest point is.

I hope the very best. Would be a shame to lose a brand with such a great history.

Yes, german engineering might be better for alpha. But I still think it is a dying brand. Perhaps some one may rescue it. Maserati is the other sporty/luxury brand (more affordable than ferrari) also fiat owned that may have a better future than alpha.

Maserati isn't doing that well either, allthough being very pretty cars, they're not that well build and oldfashioned in terms of technology. The SatNav looks like it's 15 years old and buildquility is not that good either.
Fiat has one absolutely fantastic car (Fiat 500 and especially the Abarth) but all the rest is rubbish. Same as Lancia. Another brand with a great history. Now Fiat ruined it completely by selling rebadged Chryslers as Lancia in Europe. How low can you go.... It once was a unique brand with unique designs. Now it's just a luxurious name to sell unsuccesful Chryslers that will probably never be populair Europe.

Point taken. But then why is ferrari riding on such a huge wave of success in recent times. Their ergonomics are inferior, the sat nav (an option I would not bother ordering on a ferrari) is nothing to write home about and build quality issues exist. Ferrari is not big on luxury, a lexus would give you more of that. So it's basically just their name and high performance engines and sound?

The name I think, is a very big part of its succes and of course Ferrari makes fantastic sportscars. In a Ferrari the build quality somehow doesn't effect as much as on other cars. Most Ferrari's aren't driven more than 10000km a year. A maserati on the other hand, you mostly buy as a luxurious daily driver and that's where other priorities count and things as build quality etc. become more important. That's how I see it... Don't know if that is exactly how it is though...

That is also why a 911 doesn't have true competitors in terms of being a very good 2+2 sportscar on the road and on the track and at the same time being a car you can easily live with every day.
Benefits of a Ferrari and a Maserati in one car...? There's no substitute

to me the 458 is simply fantastic, tremendous feel and driving dynamics at any speed, well balanced and fast...

from the current cars you can simply go buy right now the 458 is my second favorite car after the Aventador, right in third is the 997 GT3 RS and fourth the R8 V10 GT... the 458 is an amazing machine really

458 and 991

Here is my two cents , most of us can probably agree on comparing a 458 and 991 is like apple to oranges. A more informative comparison over certain aspect of each car will need more than just a short drive. 991 is an excellent sport car, but driving a 458 is a different level of experience. Both are great car.

While the 458 definitely out shines the new Carrera's, I don't think it beats the new 991 GT3/2 cars. Obviously the 458 wins in the looks department, but Porsche has obviously upped the game.

To me, the 458 is really on a different level to Porsche.

Although, the 991 is a wonderful car, the brand and cost push Ferrari to the next level in terms of prestige.

It's very common to see 991's on the street everyday. 458's on the other hand come out really only on weekends here.

Apples-to-apples, you'd have to compare the new 458 Scuderia to the GT3 and guess who comes out on top?

Indeed this is a gorgeous pic. I love the side view, love the view of the back. But am I the only one here that can't stand the frontal view of the 458 ? Those light clusters look .. well, I don't have a word for it ..

To me, the 991 is a much prettier car !

But as a sportscar, dynamically, the 458 is probably on top. As a complete package though, the 458 can't touch the 991 for me.
