Drove a 458 today...
To me, the 458 is really on a different level to Porsche.
Although, the 991 is a wonderful car, the brand and cost push Ferrari to the next level in terms of prestige.
It's very common to see 991's on the street everyday. 458's on the other hand come out really only on weekends here.

They've only built 500 of them. It's a magnificent car, with a beautiful engine and an amazing sound.
Indeed this is a gorgeous pic. I love the side view, love the view of the back. But am I the only one here that can't stand the frontal view of the 458 ? Those light clusters look .. well, I don't have a word for it ..
To me, the 991 is a much prettier car !
But as a sportscar, dynamically, the 458 is probably on top. As a complete package though, the 458 can't touch the 991 for me.

I've been lucky enough to drive it for about 45 minutes. When they introduced it, they let all owners of dealerships drive the car for a day. My uncle happen to be an owner of a dealership and he gave me the oppertunity to drive it, allthough I was not allowed to floor it

Ah Suzy, sound, don't get me started. Long time ago I was soooo in love with the sound of the Maseratie Trofeo. I mean the old ones with the V8, not the current ones based on the Gran Turismo. Not as pretty as the AR 8C offcourse, being dedicated track cars, but that V8 engine tuned by Ferrari, mmmmmmm, so aggressive ... you should definitely try to check those out on youtube if you like that kind of engine symphony !
And it's little sister - the new 4C

I have some issues regarding the 458's looks as well - starting with those headlights. Performance wise, while my experience was brief, I have absolutely nothing negative to say.
The 458 vs. 991GT3 will be an interesting comparison based on performance only. Having driven the 458, I can't wait to see how the GT3 compares...The two cars are still in different categories in every other respect IMO.
Ferrari has lost some of it's prestige IMO. The cars are great however when I attend events at the Circuit of the Americas, there are lots of little chubby dudes wearing Ferrari red, lots of gold and escorted by a tall blond haired brunette with big fake ***** and high heels. While I don't want to be a member of a club that would have me as one of it's members, I am not sure the I care to be a Ferrari club member either.
While I also agree that the 458's front grille and headlights are its worst features, overall it's a beautiful car and one I thought I'd love to own (even had an order in on one in 2010). I've since found that it's as much an attention ***** as is the Lamborghini and that the older I get, the less attention I crave. I think that's part of the appeal of the 911 to me: timeless good looks, impeccable history, and supercar performance in a reliable, comfortable daily driver which doesn't cost an obscene amount of money.
No doubt, but I'm comparing car models that are in production this year, not future cars. The 458 Scud is supposed to go on sale shortly after intro in Sept. but the GT3RS isn't slated for production until 2014.
I love my California. I live in year-round sunny weather and this is the first convertible I've owned. I wonder why I waited so long? I've used her as a daily driver for the past 1.5 years and she has been as reliable as my 997.1C2S and more intoxicating. I enjoyed 4 years of DD the C2S, excellent performance and an understated Meteor Grey. Unfortunately, I ruptured my left Achilles executing a flying knee kick (I do muay thai) and it was too painful to drive the C2S even 6 months after the surgery.
Even though the Cali is Nero Daytona, I get an inordinate amount of attention and it is disconcerting at times. So many yahoos want to race, some grandpa in his Vette was revving his engine next to me in afternoon traffic on the way home last week.
On 2 separate occasions, I've had girls follow me off the highway on my way home. Sounds like it would be cool but it's rather creepy

I am currently #2 on the list for the 458 Spider. My friend came over to my house after he received the first Spider in our state last year and the 20 minutes I experienced behind the wheel was fantastic. As they say, it was love at first sight.
I'm still a bachelor and don't have any kids so I thought this would be the time to make the move. I still love Porsche (the service manager is my patient) but Ferrari ownership, for better or worse, is a completely different experience IMHO.

Lets do it together ...I've now followed your footsteps (litterly) and done it a couple of times!! The grip is amazing...litterly glued...oops..,off topic...talk offline
A bachelor and a husband act differently. Girls can smell this like dogs can smell fear.
So I'd say that is possible.
