Those sponsored posts have been there for months. Easy to ignore since they are always on top. Does anyone else get targeted pop up ads for Cadillac? I get annoying pop ups that fade the background and must be closed before continuing. This is the only site it occurs on and it only happens on my phone. Happens in all threads and at seemingly random times.

I've been getting those too. I believe the ones I've seen were for Chevrolet trucks.

Its been a few weeks since I last saw it.

 

the IB crew made a software change...this from IB Nolan:

"The ad team installed a new version today and removed the preferences. My apologies to you and the members for their mistake but it should be gone now."

you might still see them if you are logged out but as soon as you log in they should go away...this is the way it was before the change...let me know if anyone continues to see them when logged in

I know exactly what you are talking about. I was talking about pop ups that actually "pop up" over the top of the page you are viewing, not a banner ad or anything else. It happens to me sometimes when a page is first opening. Since the mods are already monitoring this thread I figured I would bring it up here rather than starting a new thread on "pop up" ads. I'll try to get a screenshot if it happens again. They take up about half the screen and fade the background until they are closed. You know, a "pop up".

I have not heard this before. Is it happening when you are logged in? Can you do a screen capture - I can have IB look into it.

 

it only happens when I'm not logged in. As stated it only happens on my phone which is an Android. I haven't seen it in about a week. It has been going on for about the last 4 months. As someone else stated it was Chevy truck ads last month. If I see it again I'll try to get a screenshot.

 

I believe it is supposed to happen if you're NOT logged in.

 

my understanding is that it will happen if you are not logged in...as soon as you log in they should go away...check the little box to remember you and when you open the site you will already be logged in and you won't see those damn ads

 

I fully understand that logging in will solve the problem. I guess I'm paranoid. I never let any sites automatically remember me. I have too many devious friends, family members, and coworkers. Not in a bad way...More like a watch out for a thousand phone calls about a free hot tub "you" posted on Craigslist kind of way. All in good fun. It's just made me overly cautious. I was just curious since it only happens on my phone, and on this site. It amazes me that something so annoying could actually somehow work as a marketing strategy to sell new cars. Thanks for the reply.

P.S. The ad company responsible is named Kontera. I got a Caddy pop up right before I logged in.

 

I was logged in on my laptop last night when the fake "posts" kept popping up. That seems to have ben fixed. Any other advertising on the page where it belongs - across the top and down the sides - is fine by me. They help pay to keep the site up and running. I just object to fake posts which only happened last night due to a glitch that was subsequently fixed.

Now I wish this thread would simply be locked or die of natural causes because it's run its course.
