Not really the best Escort 9500ci installation ever...

This all started when I asked my dealer (Porsche of Fairfield) if they could help remove my current Escort 9500ci that had been so successfully protecting me from ‘Achievement awards’ from my friends at the State Police and Highway Patrol for the last 5 years. I had had it installed in my ’08 M3 from new without holes or damage to the car. It had worked flawlessly for the last five happy motoring years so why not just move the same unit to my new 991?

‘No the radar is part of the car and as you are trading it you must leave it in the car. We will sell you a new one for $1500.’ This was the dubious claim from my dealer. At this point I had already started to get irritated with this dealer and I figured it might be a good idea have the new unit cleanly installed by their ‘professionals’ anyway so not worth the fight and so I caved on that.

My 991 CS2 arrived and they installed the 9500ci for me before delivery.

There are one or two small issues however.

Pic1 is the rear laser defuser/detector they put it on the other way around so I flipped it and put a black plate surround so it is less noticeable. I have seen others that have this nicely flat mounted. Anyone know who can do this in the east coast?

Pic2 is the controller mounted out of the way behind the wiper stork just where I like it. No holes so that is fine by me.

Pic4 is where the display is mounted, top left of the window and I can HIGHLY recommend this position because it is just there in the corner of your eye and you don’t even need to hear the warning you just see it and can react so quickly. Also this is also a NO holes place to mount so I like that as well.

Is where things start to come off the rails... They only thing my 9500ci tells me is “wiring fault” They are going to replace the main unit and the receiver this week and hopeful that will fix that. Of course it might actually be a ‘wiring fault’ by hey I am no expert.

Pic5 is the right hand laser defuser which at first looks just ‘Kool and the gang’ but if you look at it as we are here from directly in front of the car it is in fact facing at a 40 degree angle off to the right not straight ahead. I think maybe useful if the cop is trying to laser me while I am drifting sideways but as it turns out I tend to drift at or under the speed limit.

Pic6 is the left land laser defuser with is covering any cunning cops that are trying to laser me from underneath my car, or behind the radiator depending which way it happens to be is flapping around at the time.

Anyway they are going to take a stab at fixing these issues for me on Thursday.

I will see how that turns out but I would like to know of any other Escort installers in New England that might be able to clean this up a bit for after the dealer has finished with it? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear. Just reinforces my belief never to have the dealer install anything for you. Now I know never to go to Porsche of Fairfield.

I had the dealer install an escort. Laser units perfectly aligned and the radar receiver behind the bumper. No problems and no public recognition for my or the car's abilities. Porsche of Delaware installed it. Their mechanics are fine. Just stay away from their subcontractors.

It appears this particular stealer's 'pro' installer really bites !

Obviously has no experience or knowledge of 9500ci install. Those front laser shifter looks the worst. Actually, i suppose getting an error message from start is the worst..

my control unit is in the same spot. Very convenient since its easy to reach while driving.

my display is above the steering column. Its held with velcro thus no drilling of involved.

i m also interested in the flush rear laser shifter. I have LED license plate lights.. and the big Escort shifter is blocking lot of the light.

anyways, hope u get it all sorted out.

I think it is total BS that they think the Radar detector set up is part of the car, unless you told them from the beginning and agreed that's part of the deal.
I would have taken my business else where.

Regarding the installation, I don't have any helpful suggestion/opinion. But I think I have read a thread that shows multiple pictures done by someone really professional. It looks really nice.

NMurray22 I have a great installer in Boston if you're willing to travel up this way. PM me if you want his info and I can send you some install pic. Who ever your dealer used to do the install should stop doing them. That work is horrible. Oh and the 9500ci is not part of your trade in. My sales guy let me take out everything that I had put into my 997: laser interceptor, escort and my flip up front plate. Time to find another dealer to do your business with.

Search Rennlist under

991 Custom Laser Jamming + Radar Detection System

I can't seem to copy a link over.

But the location of the controller and display may not be ideal for some people.

OP, sorry to hear about the mishap. Below are examples of what the possibilities are. The front laser diffusers need to have a clear line of site, but it should not be sticking out like this as it detracts from the looks of the vehicle. However, also keep in mind that whoever remounts them, make sure they do not put it so far back that it's performance is hindered.

There can be a pretty significant difference between shops, so if possible take a look at their 9500ci installs before proceeding. This one step can actually save you much time and headache in the long run. For us at Premier, it typically takes 2-3 days for us to complete an installation like the one below while other companies can do it in just 1. It comes down to experience and how "custom" you or anyone want it. Hope this helps

These are some pictures of what can be done:

Service at Fairfield Porsche is the most insanely inept group EVER! TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just adding my two cents. Run away and find someone else to do the install.

If you stay with them, make sure you do a thorough walk around of your car after getting it back. Inspect it top to bottom before leaving the service center.
