Anybody not keep there 911 in a garage

I'm thinking about getting a new 911, but I don't have room in my garage for it. This car would replace my Boxster witch I used as a part time daily driver. I live in a safe neighborhood, my only worries are the elements of the weather and wildlife. My Boxster has held up good for the past two years outside, only the snow and ice has caused me problems due the the soft top and window indentation.

Mine wasn't kept inside. I had no problems with it in that regard (no cracking or faded interior, paint fading, etc...).

Car cover too. I can't get into the garage due to steep drive. It does sit under a canvas carport, but still gets leaves and other debris. Just do not use the cover if the car is dusty, has debris, or the car cover is not cleaned. You can scratch the paint. Otherwise you should be fine. Arrive home from work or wherever, throw on the cover and you're good.

This is wonderful advice about car covers. Period.

I would only use them seasonally (personally). But if you are able to protect it from the rising/setting sun, I'm sure additional protection is never a bad thing.

I once saw a bridge made from a thick sheet of steel, that was hinged in someones driveway. Presumably, so that it could be flipped down to get a low car up the driveway. When I saw it, it was in the flipped up position. It was easy though to tell what it was. Not so obvious though, as to be an eyesore. Might be a possible solution for you. Just a thought.

In the end, its sunlight that does the most damage over time. If you keep the car for 5 years or less you should be good - even then your paint WILL age much faster than it would indoors. Keep the car longer and it will be heartbreaking. I second the caution on car covers, the Tyvex ones can scratch your paint even if its clean.

If only they added SPF 50 to car wax!

I'd consider using this product for extra protection against the elements: http://www.autogeek.net/optimum-opti-coat.html

I used to get car cover for my cars. After awhile, you get too lazy to put it on and off. About 6 months.
I wonder what you got in your garage that you can't spare the room for a Porsche 991.

I agree... car cover when not in use. If it is a daily driver, you drive to work, it is outside all day (unless you work where there is covered parking). Then at night you drive home ( in the winter months it will likely be dark soon)... so not sure how much additional sun damage would happen by being stored outside.

Beware, car covers can damage your paint if put onto a dirty car... And outdoors the wind is gonna move that cover.

very good point. As some have mentioned before, the 991 paint seems less resilient than previous models.
