Bluetooth Audio only works when it feels like it
I consistently lose the BT connection between my phone and the car; so much so that I finally bought a go phone sim to put in the car (I have the telephone module). The phone can be in my pocket or on the passenger seat and it makes no difference. On the other hand, if I have the phone connected to my PC via BT it never drops the connection. Whenever I mention this to the service people they just look at me since Porsche has no tools for them to discover or diagnose this issue.
my IPhone rarely fails to connect. When that happens I turn off the PCM by pressing the left **** and then turn it on again by pressing the same **** and it always connects.

Yes, I have an android phone as well. It connects every time. It is the dropping of the connection I am referring to. I will look to the PCM and note that the signal bars are replaced with the "nothing connected' icon. Each time I can go back into the PCM, go to the BT menu, select the phone, and then it will re-establish the connection. So the two devices still see each other and are "paired" but the "connection" piece is broken. This doesn't happen with our Volvo and a nearly identical android phone (hard keyboard being the difference) so I believe it is the P s/w.
I paired my IPhone 5 with the PCM it works well for the phone calls but I cannot get the phone to appear in the source for Bluetooth audio. I tried the procedure indicated in the owner's manual but it's not working so I'm a bit lost here..
I was hesitating if I should get the blue tooth option for the phone.
First, I like having privacy when I make phone calls, and i guess most of the time will be with next to my wife when ill be driving this car.
Second, I'm being aware the existence of this common problem of loosing signal.
I guess I won't get this option at last.

I think I may have had the same problem the first time as well, but can't remember what I did to get it to work. I think I hit "play" on the phone and then it got recognized. Try it, see if that works.
dr bit-- Even with the discussion above I would still get the option. It is always cheaper to get this stuff when the car is built than adding it later (if you can). I would also get the telephone module for its price. For earlier builds, a PCM update just came out that does address some BT and other issues but I haven't used the car enough since the update was done to see if it fixes the dropped connection problem.
I kept on having this same problem as well for streaming music. I have a iphone 5 as well. I do not have any issues with pairing the phone with the PCM for phone calls. It pairs 100% of the time. Now for streaming music, I use spotify and the phone would pair for audio only about 60% of the time. Now what I do is hit play on my iphone 5 before I start the car. Within 2 min my bluetooth audio will pair with my iphone 5. Try this! It now works for me almost 100% of the time.
From what i have found, if you have the newer radio with "Jukebox" function (~Nov. '12 production and later), you cannot have BT Aux connected at the same time as having a USB device (like an iPod) plugged in in the glove box. BT Aux simply will not appear in your source list.
I'm an android user, but my dealer and I experimented with it quite a bit and this held true for iOS devices as well.
Try this:
1) Disconnect anything attached to USB
2) Shut the car down completely... open a door to fully kill the power to the PCM
3) Re-start car
4) Follow the procedure in the manual to enable BT Aux and add an MP3 player
That SHOULD do it.
It still won't connect to BT Aux 100% of the time.
I never have a problem with the phone function, however. That is very solid and never drops once connected.
