I was just checking out the 918 on the configurator.. they charge $1380 (!!) for a painted key on the 918. That's more than a $1000 for the same key they provide on a 991.. I assume that's what it cost to have the leather pouch match the interior color... :-)

I complain as much as anyone about the ridiculous cost of some of the options. Truth is, Porsche is not the only car company that does it. Ferrari is just as bad with $16K carbon fiber adornments in the engine bay and Rolls Royce with its $20K stainless steel engine cover.
When you get down to it, what choice do we have if we want performance and comfort? There is always the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette that only adds an additional $12-13K to trick out the standard model that performs as well as a 991 at half the cost.

So we pay through the nose and the car companies know we will.

Those ordering 918's and the like are, for the most part, price insensitive. Here's my AMEX Black card....call me when it comes in.

I ain't there....yet.

Everyone complains about some of the option pricing by Porsche. Consider this, when a large production automobile company prices out (and orders from suppliers) they may be ordering in lots of 100,000 units. With a 991 the "extra" items are probably ordered/priced in lots of 3-5,000 units. Difference in pricing 5,000 and 100,000 from supplier would be a cost to Porsche of a factor of at least 2-3 times per item.

Nah. I am glad they make lots of money. Supply vs demand.

The day the cars stop being so awesome is the day their sales and profits will drop. For now, good for them.

Doesn’t mean I won’t try to buy one for less money. Just means they can command it.

I wish I could think up an idea that would keep all of you knuckle heads spending $300 for a painted key.

I believe it was the dealer not Porsche itself that charged you that? Or did you take the car to Zuffenausen to have it reset? I'm guessing that you did your first oil change? Remember the dealer needs service revenue also to stay in business so charging a minor amount like $62 instead of getting the service revenue seems a bargain to me. Don't look at the cost of $62 but rather how much you saved.

Of course you can get the colour side kit for a key at far less and then just change out the black for whatever colour you want (that's available). Far less cost. Looks like original.

Or you just ask your dealer to throw in the colored Keyfob and leather pouch I asked and got both for free, even with my second hand Boxster.

They had enough colors to chose from

Absolute best: the 911_50 emblem for.... $359!!
And this comes from Suncoast that is pretty competitive when it comes to OEM parts...

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...newproductpage

edit: you will notice that the emblem is sold out. So several people do not consider $359 to be an issue. Porsche was right once again!
