New tires: Pirelli P Zero to Michelin Super Sports
Look at 1.31 and 4.01 in my Ring video, driven on Michelin SS. Dangerous understeer. The day after I changed to the Pzeros I have, MUCH better turn in, better feel and grip. More GO CART feeling.
I advice everyone, stick to the fantastic Pzero :-)

I've been advocating the same thing since 2 sets of PSS on 2 different 997s. PSS have NO GRIP!!!! They truly suck and I will never buy them again, or Michelin anytime soon. Both my Pzeros and Goodyear F1s on more current cars put the PSS to shame. PS2 too. And not just when new, but throughout the life of the tire. The PSS does understeer badly on all but the most grippy pavement.
1.) the majority of drivers I interview at the track prefer Michelin over any other tire, excluding slicks.
2.) I am currently running P-Zero's and they just can't handle track heat. They are pure grease after 2 heats.

It's good to be open minded. I too wanted to believe in the PSS. So much so I tried it again after results I knew weren't good. Stupid mistake. Then on to the Pzeros and I had confidence all over again. My RS60 still has its original PS2s. I'll replace soon, as they have no grip either with only 8,000 miles. They didn't have grip at 5,500 miles either at the point I purchased the car. Will probably go with the Goodyear F1s as they also have go-cart like grip. Love 'em on my Cayman R.

Question I have is why do the rear Michelins guys are putting on the 911's look like the fronts with the curb lip and tapered edge?
On this Ferrari, the rears are rounded like the stock Pirellis on the 911.

Hey, I am not in the tank for any tire. I am only commenting based on two facts (notice I said facts, not opinion):
1.) the majority of drivers I interview at the track prefer Michelin over any other tire, excluding slicks.
2.) I am currently running P-Zero's and they just can't handle track heat. They are pure grease after 2 heats.

Hey Frank :-)
1. The majority is never right. Or maybe I should say, the majority do not drive at the absolute limit of grip. The SS tire requires me to change driving style, earlier breaking point, lower corner speed but compensating by starting the accelleration earlier to achieve high speed on the straights. This results in good laptimes, but the tire does also sometimes fail me in grip and feel. Like you say, the solution can be R tires.
2. You are right, the Pzero does not handle heat as good as the SS tire.
At the Nürburgring when driven hard, after 10 minutes, I can feel that and also have to adjust the driving but not a bigger problem than the lack of grip in the SS tire. The laptimes on the second lap With Pzero is as fast, and never any understeer.
So we should not ignore the facts here. The SS tire will understeer when driven at the limit, driving style must be adjusted.
The Pzero will get warm, but still will not understeer or perform bad even after 16 minutes of hard driving.
Dag :-)
