Are Carrera 4's Fun?
I have a 997 carrera base and its a blast, but I am thinking of getting a 991.
Is the Carrera 4 fun? Or is the 4 well drive heavy and not as fun? I realize some purists love the RWD of a porsche. Aesthetically -- the 4 sure looks cool. BTW is there a wide-body version of a RWD posrche? Is that 50 Year Anniversay 991 a widebody? |
I have a 991 C4 and it's a blast! The AWD system "knows" when to provide additional power to the front wheels...it's not 50/50 all the time. Actually, there's an active gauge that lets the driver know when and how much power is being transferred to the front wheels. My only experience with the 991 has been the C4; however, based on that experience I would say that all of these cars are fun to drive and preference between the C2 and C4 really depends on the driver.

The "4" models are a hoot if you are someone who really likes to paste a corner. If you drive sanely and really don't get into the car in a big way then you won't get much benefit from them unless you want to scoot corners on a rainy day. I owned a C4S (993) and with a set of R-Compound tires on it for track days, the grip through corners at speed was unbelievable. HUGE grin factor - and you amaze your right seat ride-alongs. I would actually prefer have a '4' car over the '2' but this go-round the extra cost of that model made me stick to the 2WD of the 991S.

You could also wait for the GTS to come out. In regards to weight, I think it's less than a 130lb difference.

Track my C4S car is great fun, very neutral actually.

That thing drove around corners like it was on rails. Sleet, snow, rain... not a problem. |
I had a '07 Turbo 6MT and now a '13 C4S PDK .. in a boat load of ways (except straight line) - I prefer my C4S
