BMW M4 first drive
For those of you interested here is my video on the new replacement BMW M4
While I did not say it in the video it might interest you guys that the M4 feels SO big and heavy after coming from the C2S. I am sure I will get used to it. I know I will also miss the shape of the 991, still the most beautiful car on the road in my view. I look forward to getting back into a 911 at a future date maybe the 2016 MY. Mean time I am sure I will have fun in the M4 and happy to post updates if you are interested. Have a great weekend Porsche friends! Nick |

Great review as usual, thanks for posting,
IMO the new blue is very far from "disgusting", finally a proper sporty color from BMW. BTW I think the sound you hear when coming to a stop is the active sound feature (aka digital enhanced sound through the speakers) |
Congrats!
Welcome back Nick! Always love watching your vids. I believe the sound you're hearing is the turbo whine/spool. My X3 35i makes a similar sound. Hopefully the airbag light is nothing major. Keep us posted and go enjoy that beast! |
Thanks for sharing, entertaining vid as usual.

What is the deal with the stuffed gorillas at the back? Are they your imaginary friends?hilarious
If I see a guy driving a brand new M4 with a camera on his head, dog beside him, 2 gorillas at the back, I am not sure what to think. Anyways, looking forward to the comparison with 991. |

I am not a fan of the digitally enhanced sound piped into the cabin. Thanks for the review, Nick, and enjoy the M4 in good health. I'm a former M3 owner myself and still love M cars. |
Congrats, been thinking of getting back into a M3 myself after they facelift it.
I hate the Yas Marina Blue also, but colour is a personal thing. Must be nice to have some decent torque, and at least you have cup holders that actually work!!! LOL |
Thanks for posting! Nice review and congrats! Enjoy it and don't forgot to stop on it here every once in a while!
|
Intrigued by the airbag light, will be following thread and thanks for making the video.

Why would I want to listen to a rich a**hole who buys bmw's everyday! Hahaha- welcome back and best of luck with your new beast.

Why does my gut feeling say that Nick will have problems with this one to?
He seems to fancy first year model cars after a redesign :-) And by the way, don't like the blue Calipers. Looks too K-mart ish. |
Nick,
Nice to see you back! You've got to ditch the head camera mount though. I was getting pretty nauseous with the video bouncing all over the place. |
Drive those roads all the time, glad no "supermom" hit your new ride hilarious. Great review, great color, love Sakhir Orange. Maybe I will see you when I am out and about on the crappy CT roads. Enjoy your new ride.

Advice: Stop buying sports cars and buy a civic. You are unlucky and have too many problems with them.

Oh boy.. I got a little worried at 11:20 into the video about reading the manual concerning flashing airbag and dash lights...

Have a great weekend Porsche friends! Nick http://youtu.be/a_MfJElYmlg Silly thought but I wonder if all the stuff (phones, case, etc.) you had in the passenger seat was giving off some sort of false positive for the passenger seat and thus the airbag. Just my first thought. As a current E90 M3 owner (6 speed sedan) I'll be anxious to follow these videos from you as well. |

Congrats on the M4 and thanks for another great video. I look forward to your next videos, and in particular your thoughts of the M4 vs. the 991 C2S after living with the M for a bit. Sakir Orange does look really nice, BTW.
|
Its tempting but you really can't compare a C2S to an M4 - they are such different cars built for totally different market segments. I would have recommended you went an ///M6 instead of an ///M4. Anyhow really enjoyed your video and I actually think BMW hit it out of the park with ///M4 when you actually get down to what they were trying to achieve.
|
Lovely car Nick, please keep us posted !
|
I'm still not too sure what to think about the M4. I guess I'll have to drive one and see. Good video, thanks for posting.
|
Good luck Nick! Hopefully you have learned your lesson about carrying kayaks around on sports cars.
|
I just got the 'new blue' on a 428ix as my everyday ride and get a lot of compliments

You have to believe some issues experienced in Europe during the first year of sales would be addressed before hitting here. Even though the cars aren't 100% identical. There's enough overlap.
I used to think that I had bad luck with cars, and then I found Nick. Best of luck. |
I have a 991S and a E92M3 and don't compare the 2 because they are very different. The M4 looks too big, cluttered and the exhaust sounds like dog. As for how well it may or may not go around a track, get a dedicated track car. While some cars are fast around a track for a couple of laps, they are too heavy and are dangerous since they don't have proper safety equipment such as a roll cage and fire extinguisher system.

Great review as always Nick, looking forward to the next couple. I am not sure I am a fan of piped in noise, but let's see what you think of it after you get some miles on it.

You guys keep saying piped noise I think you are misunderstanding what piped means. The only car I know of that has piped noise is the LFA. Where literally it has holes with routes in the inside of the car that leads to the engine so you can hear the engine noise more. What BMW does is play fake noises through the speakers of the car from what I understand.
I have heard both of these descriptions from different people at BMW. Does anyone have a definitive explanation of the exhaust noise/sound in the M3/M4 cabin? I'd love to get some finality/clarification to this issue. Obviously, neither is great. But fake would simply be too much to take. |
Found this link that talks about the motor noise you here in the cabin, but this post should not be hijacked, Nick did a good piece.
