Hard habits to break

So finally got to take the new TTS out with PDK. My first play car that was not a manual. Easy to get used to for sure. Stick the shift lever in manual mode and starting working those paddles. The habit for me anyways is to let off the gas slightly as I was shifting gears, old habit. Also as come to a stop light my left foot kept reaching for the clutch. Also when I was turning a corner and trying to shift got to remember that the paddles go with the wheel.

Still keeping it under 4k which is hard, but not too hard. Spring can't come soon enough. Snow is starting to melt slowly.

Had to wash the car thoroughly after the ride.

Old habits die hard.

Congrats on the TTS! Give it a few months, then you'll either drop those habits, or realize that you can't live without them (that happened around 6 months for me).

I borrowed my son's car last week which has paddles, and I too found it hard to get used to the paddles turning in synch with the steering wheel. If I ever move from MT to PDK, I think I'll use the shifter rather than the paddles since it's always in the same place regardless of whether you're going straight or turning. It would make the transition from MT to PDK less contrasting.

I actually used the shifter quite often before I forced myself to use paddles and now I use those predominantly

I use my paddles exclusively. Only use the shifter **** when I have one of the Rental 991's from Avis in Stuttgart as I have never been able to make the buttons work properly. I even converted the steering wheel on my 996 TT Tiptronic to paddles.

It is indeed always strange when you misstep to go hit the clutch...and find a nice, padded foot rest instead

My first PDK and I found adapting was quicker than I thought... and like it.
Now I'm reaching for imaginary paddles in my F150... LOL

omegaSMP300 is infamous around these parts
If the shift directions were reverse for the shifter I would have used it more than the paddles (coming from BMWs).

I've driven stick shifts all of my life and frankly I am tired of them. I leave my 2014 991 in automatic all of the time and simply enjoy the ride.

The PDK is telepathic. As soon as I think about shifting, it already has. I do not need to use the paddles so can just concentrate on smooth braking, brake release and acceleration to maintain the car's balance. Just wish that I had grown up carting so that using left foot braking would now be in muscle memory. So the hard habit for me to break is right foot braking. Alas, I will just stay with the sub-optimal right foot braking and try very hard to apply acceleration in an absolute minimum of time with smoothness.

This is what I struggled with for the first 2 years of having dual clutch cars - trying to unlearn right-foot braking. Some idiot told me not to use my left foot, because of the potential of riding the brakes. I wish I had better instructors growing up.

Yep, learning to drive a dual clutch after years of manual has proven to be a little more difficult than I had originally thought.

Also driving in PDK manual with paddles just took a lot more thought and effort to get used to. Especially in certain cases in sharp turns and trying to shift.. Yep as others have pointed out the shifter is there as well, and it seems my technique has evolved to combinations of shifting with paddles and the shift lever. You find a combo that works but it has taken some time.

When in Auto, I find that I use a lot of rapid paddle down shifts going into corners. I don't hear many talk about this, but it seems to be what comes naturally

I do believe the PDK to be awesome and like others have said it seems very clairvoyant to your intentions. Just took a bit of time to learn to use it efficiently.

Yep, similar experience and feelings. Like using paddles while in auto to down shift a lot as well.

Paddles for downshifting

I had been using paddles to downshift in my Panamera GTS, mostly for the sound of the overrun, but since thinking about tracking my TTS, have concentrated more on very smooth cornering on the street, which generally does not even require braking at all and in Sport the PDK downshifts when necessary. Mostly just want to get on the gas smoothly and roll up the speed. Eager to get on track soon.
