Why is 911R in Porsche's Configurator?
It's not like you can really order one, let alone get one unless you're a 918 owner?. Sure, after they're all sold to the 918 guys they will turn them over for $100K over MSRP. For that matter, Porsche has the 918 on the configurator even though the car is out of production and they are pulling in $1.4-to $2Mil on the secondary market.

So us mere mortals can just dream.

It's so that you can dream (as CSK said) and configure your $168,000 toy car. Then, when you "settle" for just a $135,000 911 GTS, you'll feel like you got a deal and of course, the Germans just laugh all the way to the bank...

I wondered the same when trying to order a Cayman GT4, but thinking about it now, I guess it makes sense to list all the cars in current production.
Also I guess to see how much markup there is on the secondary market. However it would be nice to see a big "Sold Out" stamp across cars that are not available. I'd be interested in seeing stats of the production run and where in the world they were sold. |
Kind of stupid I agree, but maybe Porsche is gauging the market interest by the number of hits on the 991 R configuration page for a second iteration of the car.

So if anyone at Porsche is reading this thread, Let's get the 911R out there and make it available to all not just 918 owners. |
