Why is 911R in Porsche's Configurator?

It's not like you can really order one, let alone get one unless you're a 918 owner?. Sure, after they're all sold to the 918 guys they will turn them over for $100K over MSRP. For that matter, Porsche has the 918 on the configurator even though the car is out of production and they are pulling in $1.4-to $2Mil on the secondary market.

So us mere mortals can just dream.

It's so that you can dream (as CSK said) and configure your $168,000 toy car. Then, when you "settle" for just a $135,000 911 GTS, you'll feel like you got a deal and of course, the Germans just laugh all the way to the bank...

I wondered the same when trying to order a Cayman GT4, but thinking about it now, I guess it makes sense to list all the cars in current production.
Also I guess to see how much markup there is on the secondary market.

However it would be nice to see a big "Sold Out" stamp across cars that are not available.
I'd be interested in seeing stats of the production run and where in the world they were sold.

Kind of stupid I agree, but maybe Porsche is gauging the market interest by the number of hits on the 991 R configuration page for a second iteration of the car.

I wish that were true. I'd order a 911R in a second if it was available to us common Porsche folk. It's just me but the only Porsche I would buy these days are the ones available with manual. All sorts of arguments can be made for PDK but to me, I feel best driving the car when I drive manual. Having said that, the present GT3 (I've had 2 with manuals) the Turbo, and Turbo s are not even a consideration for me. I owned several Ferrari's, two of which had manuals (308GTS and Testarossa) the 3rd was an F1 tranny (Stradale). I enjoyed the 308 and TR more than the Stradale because of the tranny.

So if anyone at Porsche is reading this thread, Let's get the 911R out there and make it available to all not just 918 owners.
