MPSS installed - world of difference already
I like MPSS better than PZero's, having had both on my 997 and 991. That said:
1. The PZero's on the 991 are improved over the old version and
2. These threads are inherently misleading because nobody ever tests the tires back to back when both are new. I guarantee if you switched from a used set of MPSS to a new set of PZero's you would be impressed with the quiet, plush, grippy ride.

This is so true. I was thinking this exact same thing. I wish I could drive the same car back to back with brand new tires.

I had PSS on prior 911 and boxster. Awesome tire as new, from half life on scared the beejesus out of me in the wet (no puddles required)
According to a PCNA engineer that I met on a track event, Michelin refused to set a compound for non-GT cars, leaving Pirelli by itself on 20â€

PSS has little grip after half life in the dry too. Unfortunately testers don't test old tires. As for the PZero PZ4, I know that tire is multi-compound and can be tuned to the application (by Pirelli). The 4S still gets most of the rave reviews in comparison, but again, what's it like when worn? I just wish either Porsche never went to a 20" inch wheel, and that it sucks no extreme performance tire is in 20". Boo to both.
The P0 is an awful tire (when new or not) in the wet. No puddles required. It has a Goldilocks zone in the track, cold is crap (most are), proper temp is good. If you turn off the PSM (or use PSM sport), the lateral g's will cook the tires very quickly. I had to take more than 20 psi (started cold at 36) throughout a simple lead/follow event. On a DE, after 10-12 mins, they cook to the point that you need a "calm" portion of the track to keep checking the TPMS for a stop. If they get too hot, they'll snap and if not careful, you're done (no pun intended).
The tendency that 911s have to wear the outside of the tires when hard driven is significantly exacerbated with P0s. My best guess is that Porsche decided with a mix compound to keep some group more happy than others. I see that also on the 991.2 cab suspension vs. coupe suspension, the former being softer which didnt happen (or at least to a similar degree) before.
The acclaimed PS4 allegedly crumbles in track use, so that's a no-no (check tire rack reviews).
Im going with Cup 2 tires between April and mid November, Alpins for the rest. If I'm driving a car with crap wet traction, at least should be decent on all the rest. What I've heard and read is that the Cup 2 is not impossible to live with as a DD.
Next week I'll know more, visiting a Costco tire center...
What's RL? Michelin could make the world's worst tire and people would love it. It's called market position.
