Overpriced 911's......

anyone paying these ridiculous prices will regret it later on ... I don't blame the sellers for maximizing their profit but I do blame the buyers for falling into these overpriced cars . If no one would overpay then we would have realistic sales . That being said , it's all about simply and demand . This craze will end soon and I feel for those who overpaid .

Do you have any examples? I see folks getting great deals all day in the Rennlist "Hot For Sale" thread, actually it is amazing what I see there. I bet every buyer is happy with their purchase! Keep hunting for your deal, it is out there...

What on earth are you talking about?

We've been seeing 100's of great deals here over the past 12+ months.

+1

$30K to $50K++ off MSRP for cars with around 10K miles or less not enough?? With CPO's to add!

I think he's talking about the GT3rs and 991r.

carsnob Apr 2, 2016 01:21 PM

Yet there are those who pay full pop for new... Sure no one likes the 50 % depreciation in 3-4 years, but that's the price you pay if you want to pick exactly what you want, that hasn't been driven by others.
They are pricey to begin with ...

Maybe he's talking about the new cars...not exactly sure. BUT he has a point if talking about new. Price of a Carrera S has gone up about $5k base price since 2012 intro of 991. Sure PASM is standard but the engine is downsized in order to meet EMISSIONS and also sell well in CHINA for better profit. Truly a global perspective. But a 3.0 liter doesn't sound as good to me as a NA 3.8, torque or no torque.

there's always the 914 for those on a budget.

Maybe dhope618 could be a tad more specific about which 911s (old air cooled, new limited production, etc.) and why he has this opinion. Or maybe he's trying out a fire-starter kit with a great opening comment . . .

specialty cars....welcome to the real world....$$$ ...that rule applies to pretty much everything that falls into the specialty, high demand category ....

Why do you care how other people are spending their money?

That's right ... Boost the economy as we enter the $15/hr wage zone .... I am just glad that I don't own a small business ... But I have to get a babysitter soon lol

dhope618 Apr 4, 2016 05:58 AM

The reason I am concerned as to how others spend their money is because it affects me as a buyer ...unless you like overpaying for a car by the 10's of thousands .... I surely don't .. And as for your wishful thinking of $15 per hour , that is not happening . It would destroy Retail businesses . I know this phase we are in with overpriced 911's will die out . Personally I myself picked up a brand new leftover 2015 TT , MSRP 164 k for 129 k. I titled the car ...

Value is a subjective thing. I may think a car is worth $130,000 and another person thinks it is only worth $100,000. They may think a property is worth $1,000,000 and I wouldn't pay more than $700,000. Cars, wine, race horses, unless you can play in the top percent or two, they are never a good "investment." At my level, I do it for the fun. When I drive my 911 or my Morgan 3 Wheeler, I have more fun than can be described. As long as I can afford it, I will continue to buy the cars I want. If you are right and the price of Porsches drop, then you can buy one. Until then, it doesn't sound like Porsche is the car for you. In the meantime, enjoy the TT. I will spend the my ever diminishing time in my over-priced cars. 30 years from now, I probably won't be around to care.

Not sure what you're getting at, dhope. Overpriced or not, Porsche dictates the price and the market responds accordingly. There's a reason why sales have increased along with the prices.

Very few people look at a Porsche and think, "oh god, yes, good value for my dollar." But that's exactly why an open market exists: to let people spend their money as they please. If you're offended by the price tag of an overpriced 911, then look elsewhere.

On one hand, you're complaining about overpriced 911s. On the other hand, you paid $129,000 for a 911. Is it a Turbo? Sure. But, to some, the fact that a base 911 can be purchased for ~$40,000 less than what you paid is already crazy.

Prices are subjective. You either understand the price structure and pay for it (as the market does), or you don't agree with the pricing and you move away from the product (as... you guessed it... the market does).
