Porsche wheel and tire insurance

Dealer quoting me $2500. Is this fair? Is this something most have? Live in NJ. The roads here are Truly like living in a third world country.

Size of wheels & tires? Do you use winter tire/wheel set up?

20’s. “s” wheels finished in platinum. As of yet no winter wheels or tires. But that might change next year.

20 inch wheels might be problematic in NJ. Maybe not so much in the summer but definitely in the winter months. If you decide to run 19's with winter tires during the colder months, I probably wouldn't bother with the insurance. However your decision will be based upon your past experience and risk tolerance. Keep in mind, you can buy a number of tires and/or wheels for $2.5k. Also, pricing with dealer is negotiable. And yes, read all the fine print.

When I purchased my CPO 991.1 GTS the finance dept tried selling me the entire package (rim, tire, paintless dent removal, glass and key fob replacement) for $3200. I politely declined the day I was there signing the paper work. When I returned a week later to pick up the car they asked again, this time I was better educated to negotiate since I knew of two other owners who bought similar packages aroiund the same timeframe. In the end I negotiated it down to $2000 for the entire package. The plan is good for 5 years. Well worth it in my opinion.

Ive only put 2700 miles on the car and I had gotten two nails in the same driver side rear tire on two separate occasions. Since they are Z rates tires they replace with new, no patch/plug. Each visit would have cost over $400 per tire.

Thanks. Was the policy a Porsche policy or a third party?

I would self insure (and do). I live in Michigan where we have really lousy roads after the rough winter months. When I looked into it, I recall there was a 5 year or 50,000 mile limitation on the warranty which was a deal killer for me. Like someone said, the devil is in the details.

Read the policy offered...I had a 5 year no deductible all risk tire, wheel, body ding and windshield chip policy. They replaced two wheels and five tires. Policy was purchased in 2012 for $1350. My dealer told me that the insurance company will not be making that mistake again as the rates have increased.

I have a Pal who gets his wheels fixed/refinished every season at changeover courtesy of wheel and tire insurance. Winters (OEM) get fixed in summer then summer (aftermarket) get fixed over the winter. If you or others are prone to curbing I'd take it. I'm the only one that drives my car so I passed.

that's odd as wheels generally cannot be refinished more than once....

when they refinish the wheel they cut them on a lathe. Reputable wheel finishers will not cut the wheel more than once whether that makes sense or not is of no matter it just is
