991 Series 911 More Comfortable To Drive Than 997 Series Car?

I've been considering purchase of a 2012 (997.2) Carrera 4 GTS. However, what I started out wanting was a great sport touring car. The difficult part is, there aren't a lot of those, and most are made in Great Britain and Italy and either cost way too much, aren't reliable or well made, or all of the above.

I have ended up looking at Porsche cars because I know how well designed and built they are, and their reliability. A couple friends, longstanding and significant members of the local Porsche club have advised me against buying any 997 series because they are simply too track oriented, and advised me to wait until I can afford a 991 series Carrera 4S saying they can be set up for a much greater degree of comfort for daily driving.

Am I getting the right information? This car would be a daily driver at least seven months of the year. Thanks for any help with this.

I was going to buy a 997 TT before but didn't like my fitment in it as a daily driver I felt like a sardine in a can. Bought a Panamera for the overall size and comfortability, got rid of it and felt the need for 911.

Checked out a 991 and felt a bit more space for some reason so and was manual so I bought and happy with it as my daily driver, don't feel snug or compressed in it. Love my 18 way seats that are ventilated and heated. Comfortable in Bay Area traffic.

YUP!
Thats' the most concise answer to the question
One can wax and wane about somewhat less authentic sounding flax six engine in the 991.1 versus 2 and louder exhaust and analog steering in the 997. The answer regarding daily drivability in my eyes however is undebatable. It is more comfortable to drive on a daily basis. I got my 991.2 in September. It has been driven every month except for when we had snow on the ground and temperature was below 35F, meaning I drove it occasionally even in Winter. it is my daily driver and I can't wait to drive it daily. Seats appear thin to the eye bit are comfortable for long trips once appropriately configured. If you want to loaf along like in a GT, drive in normal mode an it runs nearly like a lexus shifting into 7th gear at about 35mph in the PDK. You need more involvement and engine noise, use paddles in sport or sport plus and its a sports car. your choice literally at the touch of a button

The 991 is a better daily driver and it is far ahead of the 997 in almost all aspects. Better ergonomics, better at the limits, better infotainment etc...

991 is defintiely more comfortable than the 997, but the standard seats are still too hard at the base.

The longer wheelbase of the 991, the extra room in the passenger compartment and the more supple suspension makes it a more comfortable cruiser than any previous generation 911. The 991.2 is the best so far.

In my experience there are differences in the seat comfort. If the seats fit your body its as good as anything for long distance driving. I found that the 4 way (least expensive) seats are the most comfortable for me , the 14 way next best and the 18 way sport seas the least best. I can feel the heating elements in mine and while not really uncomfortable, they are less comfortable than ones without heated seats. The vented seats I have add so much comfort on trips I will never be without them again.

Bottom line? Not all 911s are the same. Check the car you are contemplating to see if its good for you and if not look at others.

Yes, it is.

991 is better than 997, so look around and get a 991.

no doubt better than 997, especially ventilated on warmer days.

991 hands down, I've owned both.

I had a 997.1TT and its a great car, but have to admit my 991.2 GTS is nicer. I think you'll find that newer with all the updates is always better!

Ive had both, go with the 991, hands down.

I have also owned both and totally agree. 991 is much more comfortable. The only downsides I've seen are that the PCM keeps blowing out (two in 4+ years) and the rear fenders are not well lined and keep picking up pebbles (they get stuck in brakes and suspension. That being said the 991 is far superior overall and I would get another in a heartbeat!!!

Moved from a 997.2T to a 991.1T

Haven't looked back, it's a tremendous GT, but I'm not a good enough driver to describe the benefits at the limit, GL! KH

I have had a 993, a 996, and two 997's, without question a 991 is much more comfortable to drive. I don't need to take advil anymore for my back when driving my 991.
