There is no way that anyone who gave them a deposit will lose out on getting it back or having it applied to a new order.

All true. However, these buyers thought they were reserving slots for extraordinary 911s. If here there are grounds for specific performance, this dealership may be out of pocket for a lot more.

The owner of Champion died last month in a boating accident. There are a lot of strange things going on there.

This will be interesting to watch play out. Not a good look for Porsche NA!! The guy who supposedly did this was caught for fraud earlier this year and allowed to continue to work at the dealership! Champion is NA largest and highest volume store and it seems that they have little accountability and this could blow back on Porsche directly.

Somewhat attenuated I think. Dealerships are independent entities. However, could Porsche face some criticism for placing a scenario like this in motion...producing a high-demand car in limited numbers and not placing any safeguards on dealerships behaving badly towards purchasers? Perhaps, but without any liability. Champion also was a bad actor here and should not be allowed to hide behind a salesman they knew, or should have known, to be dishonest.
