2015 GTS - Engine lid strut won't stay up

Engine lid strut won't stay up.As I was getting my yearly oil change at a friend's shop on my 2015 GTS with 5,544 miles, I found out the engine lid strut can't stay up. It's no big deal. I am just surprised that both went bad in 4 years with a car that is parked in the garage most of the time.I can get them replaced at dealer but I rather buy them myself because going into the dealer is a pain.

Not sure if it is the same support strut as a TTS but part number is:

991-512-551-00 Support Cylinder

Super easy to replace, all you need it a flat screw driver to pull back the clips and release the ball joint on either end of the strut. I replaced them myself last year because my lid didn't want to stay up either.

I actually had both of mine replaced today ('15 GTS too) under warranty. I think the bill was $250, not that I paid, but I saw the cost... It is surprising that they are failing so soon.

known issue, struts are POS, and shame that they should fail so quickly

Probably sourced from the same vendor that supplies the infamous change over valves. :(

Common issue I believe. I need to replace the ones on my 991 as well.

I believe these fail because we rarely open the trunk lid and the seals dry out.

No. Poor quality part!! My ten year old Volvo hood struts still work perfectly.

It’s a common issue on 991. I had mine replaced like 2 times
