What kind of deals can be had on a new order?

Having left the Porsche world back in 2011 I am looking to get back in. I was just wondering what kind of percent of MSRP I can get off if I shop around?

Dave

On a 911? Not much if any. Most dealers are sold out and you are looking at waiting for an allocation to order. Even used cars are going fast and at a premium. Some depends on how a car is equipped, but right now the rule of thumb is if you see one you like, don't wait - someone else will get it. Expect to pay MSRP on a 911 or 718, if you have a relationship with the dealer you may get 2% off or so - though that won't happen on the new 991S with manual transmissions that are now arriving. If ordering, 6 month wait on Coupes and Cabriolets, a year on a Targa.

Discount can be had but you have to ask and maybe shop. 5% if the most you can easily get.

3.5% off of MSRP seems to be fairly common. Others have reported more, but they seem a bit far and few between.

Is this mostly due to demand right now? I can usually get 8% or slightly better on regular cars like Toyota. I have read articles saying Porsche has the highest markup of any brand, although that was years ago.

Yes, normally 7-8% off was easy. Only way I could afford this car...also waiting for a manual base.

I just got 3% off an in stock cab but do not believe that is common since 2 year old cars are trading 10k off msrp- Targas are impossible to get an allocation so why would dealer give a discount- 35 years of buying Porsches and never have seen a market with used and new supply as tight as this and no change in sight. GT3s 3 years old trading for msrp..Too much $$ chasing too few assets just like real estate.

No such thing as a manual base 992/911. The only way you can get a manual transmission is to purchase a 911S.
As for discounts and availability of an allocation. Best to treat the entire lower 48 as your Porsche shopping mall.
I got 3.5% discount from MSRP on a well optioned 2021 911S that I ordered late last August and took delivery in early December.

Howdy Bluehighways!

Please note do not only concentrate on discounts. Make sure you understand and get in writing ALL final costs that will be added. I made the mistake of concentrating on discounts and was lumbered with all kinds of fees and charges in CT at the end. Example: They insisted on doing the registration and not providing me with the MCO, this resulted in my 992 being registered as a 944, took 5 weeks and my vanity plate transfer wasn't done. Cost? Three times what it would have cost me and 5 weeks vs 2 days. Other State charges may also be snuck in (lemon law...). Don't just concentrate on the discount and as mentioned above, treat the entire 48 as your mall.

I can recommend David Soyk at Gaudin Porsche in LV (alas not the person I bought it from) but plenty of recommendations for him. GLWP

Ah yes. Hey Siberian, I believe we know of each other from another forum. What you say is very true. Looking at just the discount from MSRP would play right into the hands of a passive aggressive salesperson. Always, Always, Always make sure any quote you are given is for the Out The Door (OTD) price. For the less than the sharpest salesperson (and/or those playing dumb) I make it absolutely clear. I tell them I'm going to write just one check. What is the exact amount of the check I'll be writing? I also carry on this discussion via email and/or I follow up with a review of this conversation by email. Putting it in writing with al the I's dotted and the T's crossed makes for a much smoother path for me and frankly for the dealer as well.

Yep seems a few of us keep our fingers in various "pies"

Well said. We get so fixated on the percentages and discounts that we loose track of the forest for the trees. OTD price and one check should be your goal. And please NAME the dealer good or bad. That enables us to give business to those who deserve it

I just ordered a 911S with a manual for November-December 2021 delivery and I'm getting 2.5% off. I left the Porsche world 2 years ago and got an Aston Vantage with a manual. I'm looking forward to coming back into the fold. This order is a keeper. No sunroof, GT Silver, Spending bucks on the corduroy interior and a couple of options. I'm working with the same salesperson my family has used for 30 years. Makes it easy.
