dealer sold me salvaged turbo no disclosure
I think it is interesting NYC123 has never come back to tell us what happened. I think this was a simple story of buyers remorse. The listing for the car spoke of the damage. Which is in this thread somewhere else also. http://www.canepa.com/inventory/coll...rbo/index.html The ad also stated that car had pictures showing the damage.
You can't tell me based on this information which was made available to you that you didn't have a PPI inspection done to verify the claims right or wrong. The key word in all this was the original owner was an "Attorney" who crashed the car and strong armed his insurance company to pay offf the car.
I am friends with the gentleman who owns the car now and he loves it. I own a Black 993 Turbo I recently purchased from Bruce and would purchase another car from him anytime. In fact I would like to buy that Polar Silver 993 with Black interior. So I can have two a Black with Red and a Silver with Black.
P.S. NYC123 you should have bought that F40 it is now worth well over $600K.

I am very happy your friend likes that car, but I can tell you this was very far from a story of buyer remorse. I wish you lots of luck dealing with Bruce I am sure he has magically turned into a very honest person....p.s. if your friend wants pics of the car when it was totaled sitting in the garage of a guy in brooklyn for several years after he purchased the car from a scrap yard have him PM me and I can send them to him...
Since this was settled a few years ago, let's see pictures of the damage.
Even if a damaged car does not go through insurance,if there is any kind of police report it will show up on carfax. I know personally of two instances in which a damaged car was fixed without going through ins but since there was a police report it showed up on carfax. Buyer Beware
I doubt Adam or Bruce are losing any sleep over the deal. Anyway that car may have been too much for Adam. He crashed all alone at Coronado Festival of Speed on the 1st lap in practice this year in a Bob Sharp Datsun 610. Wasn't that the factory team..?
Rumor has it the 240z in question has been sold. I wonder if it came with driving instructions or someone else bought it...
Interesting, I grew up in Santa Cruz and knew people who know Bruce. Seemed like an alright guy, definitely a car guy with lots of money which is rare in Santa Cruz! LOL
What I think is interesting is that I heard Bruce Canepa was one of the key people that helped bring Rennsport Reunion to the west coast here at Laguna Seca. There were many cars they brought to show us "normal" folks who rarely get so up close with racing history. Heck, he personally drove some of that history on the track at full speed for everyone to enjoy. This by no means excuses bad behavior to individuals but it is worth mentioning Bruce Canepa did a lot for Porsche owners this year by supporting that event. I really hope they bring it back going forward.

These things happen some times, unfortunately. I know a friend who ordered a brand new car already damaged and repaired(probably during transport). He found that out 3 years later...
The good thing for U.S., UK and similar countries is that due to high labour cost even non seriously damaged vehicles can be declared total loss.So in this case may not be that serious damage.
I know cases where cars where cut in half and put back together and sold to dealers as normal cars...

Why didn't you look at the Carfax before you bought the car? You have a responsibility for your own due diligence. Condemn dealers all you like, but most shenanigans in the automotive industry take place with private party sellers. Cars don't talk, so dealers can't possibly know everything and Carfax's rarely tell the whole story. Not to let the dealer off the hook, but did you have your mechanic check this very expensive vehicle out before you purchased it? If you didn't, why not?
I agree that mistakes and misunderstandings can occur. What deeply disturbs me is the reference to him repeatedly denying any info about this car having been a salvage title car UNTIL our fellow 6speeder faxed him the disclosure document with his signature.
Part of what the best high end dealers are supposed to do is stand by their word. I understand that Mr. Canepa has not responded here, and sometimes hearing from both sides can prove educational.
As much as I agree that it is important to "trust AND verify"... if your word means nothing..... what type of a person are you? I know people with great personalities who can charm the birds out of trees. Unfortunately, at the end of the day that many times is inversely proportionate to how well I believe and trust them. Perhaps the quote I should have used was "Never give a sucker an even break."? I have dealt with a lot of people in this business and an unfortunate percentage of them will sell you a great car or parts one day and the next sell you a complete piece of junk and never will they imply one is different than the other.
There are two types of people to be very careful of when doing business with: 1/Those who give you a "bad feeling".
2/Those who are wonderfully charming and a delight to do business with.
A wise man should realize that #2 is far more dangerous than #1.
be careful out there

This is sad to hear and I really hope it was a misunderstanding on Bruce's part. I used to work in Scott's Valley right across from their shop and when I eventually dealt with Canepa's shop Bruce was honest to a fault and a great guy to work with.
I was just having my CL500 lowered, not buying my dream car, but Bruce could have taken advantage of me and he didn't. I won't go into detail but I will repeat, he was an honest businessman on that transaction. Sorry your experience was different.
