EVOMS Project 993TT "S" GT650 (650HP) - Engine build, TiAL GT28's, EVOMSit = WOW

Guys,

We have not built many 993TT's in the recent years, however at one point, all we built were 993's. We took on this project when our customer brought us his car after he over rev'd it and bent the valves. The car / engine was originally built by Gemballa and was suppose to have some very "trick" internal engine upgrades including a 3.8L. We removed the engine and disassembled it to find that the engine was 100% stock. Chances are, the previous owner of the car who had the work done by Gemballa sold our customer the idea that this work had been done when it really was stock. That was a few years back and now our customer wanted to move forward with a "more complete" engine build.

We completely disassembled the engine down to the crank. We installed / performed the following upgrades internally:
  • Carrillo Connecting rods
  • All new bearings
  • Balanced the rotating assembly
  • Solid rocker arm conversion
  • New intake and exhaust valves
  • Fresh heads and valve job
  • New head studs
After the core engine was built to adequate standards, we knew that we could add some more power without running into issues with the strength of the engine. We added / performed the following upgrades:
  • TiAL Alpha GT28 turbos
  • 60 lb Motorsport fuel injectors
  • Gemballa catalysts (previously installed)
  • EVOMS header modification (increases the header turbo discharge flange diameter)
  • Larger MAF housing
  • 40% larger intercooler (previously installed)
  • Gemballa Mufflers (previously installed)
  • EVOMS Billet Diverter Valves
  • 1.0 Bar wastegate springs
  • EVC boost controller
  • EVOMSit ECU calibration
Currently, we are on the dyno tuning the complete package. We are live tuning the ECU with an emulator which makes fine tuning the calibration much more precise. This ECU is an early OTP type which we are able to tune and modify without any problem. I will post more photos and videos of this project later. Enjoy!

Are the TiAL Alpha GT28 turbos direct bolt-on to OEM flanges?

Yes they are bolt on. We recommend increasing the diameter of the header outlet where they bolt to the turbos as we have done on this conversion.

We have been tuning more today and have the power up to about 650 HP and 670 TQ @ 19 psi on pump fuel. We have a little more tuning to do yet but we are more than satisfied with the results with these turbos.

How about making me a pair of GT30 for my 993TT that I can just bolt onto the OEM headers and exhaust.:)

you can actually use the 996 A30 housings, one hole has to be modified slightly and the turbo outlet flange will have to use a 996 style flange but it is entirely possible

So can you guys do the modifications and make it ready for fitment?

We have done plenty of the A30 turbos on the 996TT / 997TT applications. We can do the modifications for the 993TT here. As of now, we are making about 670 HP and 700 TQ with the GT28's. I think that this is about as far as we want to go with pump gas and without changing the camshafts. What other work do you have done to your engine?

What is a comparable KKK turbo to the GT28's?

INTMD8 Jan 14, 2010 10:12 PM

Very nice!

Not knowing much about these cars I'm curious why what appears to be the exhaust manifold heat shielding ties into the after turbo exhaust system? Also, what are the ducts that turn down to the road just inboard of the exhaust manifolds? Thanks :)
