Going to own '96 993

Hey all, newbie here.

As the topic suggest, I might get lucky and have one in the drive-way soon.

I'm interested in a Ram Air Intake for the car, or any air induction of some sort.

Also would really love to upgrade the ECU.

Anyone have any good links for this particular model?
Wanna know which one I want and how much to spend etc.

There are no real intakes for the 993. Most get the OEM "Motorsound airbox" & panel filter.

About the only ECU tuning is GIAC, it's $1000 & does 10hp, oh, doesn't work for the 96's. You need a piggyback ECU for them.

Your best bet is to get all the Carrerra RS parts you can, they are OEM, fit perfect & all work very well on the 993.

What exactly is the motorsound airbox?

I'll look into the RS parts.

It's really just a stock lid, with holes in it, & a chrome intake funnel. Cost is about $100 from the dealer.

Cheap, good RS parts are the pulley kit, that removes the ALT belt, then locks the fan to the alt & uses the bigger fan belt. That's about $150 & takes an hour to install.

This one from EVM,
Most common, doesn't really do anything.

A more expensive from Gruppe M,

never seen it, it is expensive. It looks like you need a fixed rear spoiler.

Most expensive which looks great.

It's for a turbo.

Thx for the feedback Stealth, will look to the airbox, already found a couple.

Do you have any idea with the typical drop in K&N filter, does it make that suction sound.
Call me silly, but really want the sound.

If sound is all you are after, get the motorsound cover & then a panel filter, that will give you the best sound. Only set you back $150.

I just went to the workshop today, the car's actually hasn't been running for two years waiting on repairs.
Today finally heard the engine after a long while.

BUT, turns out it's a 1993 964 C4.

Not sure what to feel about that actually.

Do you know if the motorbox works as well for this model? From what I've seen they look pretty similar, but thought I'd ask to be sure.

Yeah, the person told me its a 1995 911, but apparently he bought it new in 95 but is a 1993 car.......

Any ideas about the intakes for that car. Been browsing online, a lot still say the box like you posted is good. But with a different K&N model filter.

It's a totally different car. The 964 has a different airbox. Sorry, don't know anything really about them.

The only way to reprogram your ECU on a 96 is to buy a 97 or later ECU and program it for your car.
