993 Cabriolet Latch Motor
Hi all,
I recently replaced the right-hand convertible top latch motor. The old motor was working intermittently, or more specifically, it would on occasion not activate when trying to open the top. There was some play in the latch mechanism versus the left motor, and it seemed a common problem was a broken tooth in the gears inside the motor. My aim then was to replace the motor to have the top operating pronto for this season, and get to replacing the gearing on the fussy motor when I could devote time and have a spare on hand. However, when I opened the case of the fussy motor's mechanism, I found that the gears are completely intact, everything was properly greased, and the micro switch seemed to be getting good contact.
I've tested all of the other switches along the convertible top: limit switches, micro switches in the main motor. Everything seems to operate as it should at least while I'm testing them.
Is the latch motor just going bad (hence the play)? Or is there a misalignment in the top that I need to investigate? Something else? Looking for any suggestions so that the top continues working as it should and so that I might fix up the now (hopefully) spare motor.
Thanks all!!

Top latch not releasing
I have the same issue. I could lower top a few times then latch wouldn’t release. Forced to spend way too much time trying to get a screw driver on the screw to manually turn the gear. Everything I read pointed to broken tooth was the problem. However, when I opened the latch, the gears are in good order. Sure would like to find out how to fix this problem.
