How to run Holloed cats without CEL ?
How to run Holloed cats without CEL ?
Hi,
I would like to know if there is a way to run the car with hollowed cats and not having CEL ? I also noticed that the car is not as "smooth" as it was with the cats and without the CEL. Will a reprogram and hollowed cats make the car as "smooth" as it was (with cats) ? How can do that and how much work does it involve ? My car is running Giac software...
Cheers

you will need a reprogram for that... the 02s are sensing too much airflow and adjusting the ECU and the way it runs. You could try some 02-sims/spacers but more likely you will need to get retuned. GIAC doesn't do software for no cats. Being in California and seeing as it's illegal I can undersand why though.
I'm not sure how the cat's and O2's are laid out on the TT, but I know there are programs for my car that will ignore the 2nd O2 sensors. There are also numerous cars running O2 spacers like sharkster mentioned with no problems.

Yeah.. What kind of retune is that and what is O2 spacer ? Any cross reference ?
Thanks
Thanks
Hey, the 2.lambda probe is not adjusting any fuel mixtures. It is there to insure proper catalyst operation, the ecu knows values before the cat and after the cat it calculates a proper functioning cats value, it has a window of aprx 10% diviation and you wont need a retune to run without the 2. probe functioning.
In the Bosch program you can "switch off" the 2.lambda probes function if you know how and the car will be able to run and take advantage of the increased flow without cats.BUT when you have increased flow there is also a potential to explore more horse power and to optimise the ECU to take FULL advantage you would need a retune. But in short you dont need a complete reTUNE dyno etc etc.

FVD and Protomotive can do it...

The 02 spacer is basically a "spacer" that you insert into your 02 bung inbetween the 02 sensor itself so it senses "less" if you will. As far as a "retune" you would need to look elsewhere (FVD, protomotive and not sure who else?) because GIAC doesn't tune for "no cats".
Oh I just meant software from another company because to my knowledge GIAC does not support/sell programs for the 996tt for 'no cats"
a civic is guetto no matter what you do to it.
Thanks
you can go to schucks or your local parts store and pick up some up. I think you have to use something like a "spark plug gap filler". usually has 2 sizes and you'll need find the one that fits the threading on the porsches. Sorry for the horrible explanation. I did this for my NSX and it worked
