My 996TT won a couple Bstock PCA clubraces...hell ya...
SubscribeThis past weekend, I participated in the Summit Pt. Clubrace in West VA and definitely represpented 996tt power.
I was worried the weight of the car would prove very detrimental to the GT3s, RS americas and older cup cars that I was surrouned by the whole weekend (although only 4 in my acutal class). Well...it was, but when these thigns are set up right, they are deadly on a track with any type of open ground to thrump down some power. I qualified first for both sprint clubraces and finished first in both. Unfortunately, I had eaten up a set of new hoosiers and a set of rs19/29 pads and had to move to oranges for the enduro.
Unfortunately, I qualified lower in the enduro because of the pads...and then managed to DECIMATE a deer (only a 4-6 pt but...) at around 115 mph and got some nice blood splatter across my car and some definite right side damage...but still finished second in class...
After racing the car and getting some adj tips from Mike Levitas (lemans winner 3 years ago and TRG/slew of other driver), I definitely think this car is capable of so much...(especially when the guy who did most of the R&D for my exact shocks and EXACT (as in the ones on my car were the ones that HE developed and was showcasing))
That said...I had to work SO ****ING HARD to get this car to perform the way it did and honestly, that did get tiring quickly...
Keep on keepin' on with those turbos...and dont let those GT3s scare you away... I didnt have any real trouble with any of the gt3s I was against...
EDIT...this was my FIRST race ever...so that makes what this car can do even more spectacular with a decent driver...

Second are you club racing with your street turbo?? Or have you decided to turn it into a dedicated race car?
If it is your street car you are one crazy ****! I would never pca race with my car!

well, I can drive it on the street...but I get bored everytime I do because unless Im at 130 mph or pushing max Gs at all times (VERY close to 2 for those curious via trackmate), that car isnt fun on the street anymore.Originally Posted by buddyg

Nicely done...at least someone from Philly is winning

Very impressive for first race, you must be a very good driver. congrats.
i just tracked my 04 turbo for the first time this weekend at calif speedway roval. (2/3 oval and infield, 2.9 mile course).
coming from a bmw e46 m3, it is so different in every way, but what a blast
to drive. i run in the "a" group in bmw cca events, and it was fun to have more power than other cars for once.
i really need to work on my heel/toe. coming from a smg trans for 4 years, i got very spoiled.
any tips or hints you have for improved handling would be appreciated.
again keep up the great driving and have fun!

Thanks, its mostly due to mind like a sponge and some great teachers/mentors.Originally Posted by formulab

As far as handling...getting a REAL adj suspension for this car transforms it..in all honesty, forget power...someone is always faster in that regard...but handling is widely varied...I fully recommend bi adj race shocks with springs...even for a street car. Just make sure the springs are soft enough for your liking if you street the car. As far as a couple hints to make the car NOT understeer as much would be to lower the rebound of the front stocks, up the compression in the rears, and set some aftermarket adj sways to hard in the back , and fairly soft in the front. I would also suggest adding as much camber as you can (or you want in order to conserve tires) to improve initial turn in. Thats really a basic rundown of what to do with a sophisticated enough suspension.

Are you only running a DAS roll bar, as noted in your sig?? Surprised they let you race in PCA without a minimum 6pt cage.
PCA runs 13/13 an thusly does not require the roll cage...I know, its def strange but its great to save some weight!Originally Posted by Spencer

Congrats Drew! When your a famous race-car driver someday dont forget the little people
BTW to everyone reading this - Drew is a nasty driver...and his car is UNREAL. I had the pleasure of driving it on the street once and with a cup of Starbucks in one hand, my 6'3" frame SMASHED into his race seat, and one hand on the alcantara steering wheel, 120 mph came VERY quickly...and then after almost ****tting myself, 50 mph came QUICKER after i mashed the brakes. The car is sick as hyell.
Again congrats...win more races...spray champane all over yourself and the other on the podium, and then invite the hot models back to my place for the afterparty!

Wow.... pretty lax. BMWCCA requires at least 6pts for their stock classes. They also run 13/13, which helps but all it takes is one nutcase or even a simple mechanical malfunction for all hell to break loose.Originally Posted by sechsgang

I'd definitely suggest stepping up your cage setup if you plan to keep racing PCA in the future. Safety should always be priority #1

Good luck out there....
