Tim's Proto 650 vs Budman's GT700 preview.

Tim and I did a small comparison today and his car is running strong. We did not have enough road and no one to video so we will wait until we can get the whole thing done right, but up to about 4th gear Tim wasn't doing too bad! I was ahead but he was hanging pretty well, I am guessing with enough road in the higher speeds and gears I will still pull away. But it is way, way closer than the last time with his K16's before we did the Protomotive upgrade!

When we finally do get this filmed we will have 2 cameras in each car and 1 passengar in each car. Should be good!

Sounds good! Can't wait to see the video!

Thanks Buddy!

To make things fair.. just out of curiosity.. you guy sshould do one run both at the saem boost level... meaning that you both lets say do 1.3 bars and go at it. If one is at 1.3 bars and another 1.5 bars then the that one will win.
just curious.

What I thought we would do is Tim on high boost and me on low boost at 1.3 bar which is a typical GT700.

Then all out for both. I think he will be very close on my low boost and I should pull him on my high boost.

Any way you cut it his $10,000.00 system is hanging pretty well with my $45,000.00 system!

Totally Agree! What a great bargain!

My friend, I knew this long time ago just that I didnt want to start anything. I have feedback from guys that went at it with gt700s...
If he puts in 109 and runs it up to 1.45 and as long as hes under 13s in the AFrs.. he will be close again.
yes for the money its a nice performance package.

Another great thing about Proto tuning is that you can upgrade your Program for around 300 dollars. So when your friend wants to go to the GT35 his program will not cost him another 3000 dollars...

What is the most boost a stock engine can safely handle with a giac tune and muffler upgrade? In my case a GT2, I was making .8 stock 1.0 after Proto Tech tune and 1.1 bar at the top of third and fourth gear after adjusting waste gates. Any opinions or facts? thanks Jamie

those are K24s so u should have a K24 ecu. u can easily run 1.25 bars on 100 octane but not go over 1.2 on pump. If ur ecu would not have the 1.3 bar safety shutdown like it does then u could run 1.3 bars on 100+ octane as long as ur afrs are fine.
I had K24s and I also had 3 different ecus... 3 different WGs as well... many many months of screwing around wiht the stuff.

hey mark correct on our run today i was running 1.19(69%) in hi boost after it stabilized(after the spike) i know buddy was running 1.42 after it stabilized so he was pulling on me from because his displacement more boost more bang i am happy with the spool up nice and quick and it pulls hard every gear just have to tweek the bc(gain start boost) and watch the afrs running 12.5 /.82v

i say if i was running 1.42 it would be dead even maybe the proto would pull a little from the increase in redline who knows not will ing to blow it up to find out:) the diy install was fun cant wait for the next project (coilovers)

I'm planning on doing this package (protomotive 650) during the winter months. I'm very interested in the outcome proto650 vs gt700. Just curious if any of you with proto650 track your cars on a road course just need some feedback. In the mean time I'm still looking for a set of k24s at a fair price!

jamie furman Oct 22, 2007 07:50 PM

Thanks Markski, I am trying to get any info that can confirm I wasn't going to have any detonation problems or leaning out since I adjusted the wastegates to get to the 1.1 bar. Sometimes during a shift I will see 1.2 for just a split second literally, and then drops back down and never goes above 1.1 during accelleration and the car still seems to drive like a stocker. So you think I should be fine where I am at? I don't plan on turning it up anymore as the car runs pretty good as it is, at least for me that is. One last question, do you think my car would pick up any if I put 100 octane in it at the track instead of the 93 octane I usually run?
thanks Jamie

Buddy did you do the EBC and 5 bar before these runs

Nice to hear these comparisons. I've been wanting to run my car against a GT700 car to compare but the two times I have come across one they had problems and couldn't get the car to run right.
