I'm pleasantly surprised at 6 Speed
I have tried for over 6 months to "qualify" for membership on 6 speed...but was continually "BANNED" by a quirk in the application process. I have to admit that I bad mouthed 6 Speed on "those other Porsche forums" and was under the impression that you folks here really only talked about nice wheels, spiffy looking aero kits and other superficial subjects.
I am pleasantly surprised that this hasn't been the case, and I'm enjoying the variety of subjects I've found here so far. I guess I owe an apology for my bad-rapping the group. I did run into a fellow through Rennlist who told me he was just coming on board 6 Speed to help streamline the application process...and he encouraged me to try to apply again. I had little confidence that my efforts would meet with any success, but I would like to thank that gentleman for his contribution to enhancing the application and membership process. I would encourage that gentleman to explain the logic hehind the inability to put up pictures until you have a certain amount of posts because the first thing the existing membership would like to know is what you are driving and what you might bring to the forum. |
most forums limit the picture protocol to avoid automated bots from jamming and spamming the boards right from the start. The need for short interaction discourages the spamming community from "wasting" the small amount of time on interaction before polluting they're message.
Anywhoooo, welcome "back" to the 6 for a do-over. |
LoStro: Thank you for the explanation....that does make sense and puts a different slant on the issue. I hadn't considered the fact that there is an element that takes advantage of any given situation. I'm content to wait out my time and post when I've satisfied the forum requirements.

Somebody needs to check this guys references to make sure he is 6speed material:p
Born and raised in Sacto...moved many years ago, though. |
You can always post pics by linking them from websites like www.imageshack.us
Welcome to 6speed. |
The whole application process here is quite strange. Different from every other discussion forum I've ever joined. It took several weeks for my membership to get approved. They also won't let you use any kind of web-based email account which is a huge pain as I don't have any other email account. Luckily my account from law school was still active and I was able to use it, but as soon as it gets deleted I'll stop receiving notifications from 6speed.
Oh well. |
I must have good timing or good luck. I started looking at Porsche (996's) found this site, filled out the membership form, and was signed up in minutes. This is a great place to spend money....I mean learn and share about fine cars. Enjoy!

Welcome to the 6! Pics or ban . . .
|
Welcome aboard. What exactly is the qualification process for getting approved to join the site here? I never fully understood. It seems like so many people have had problems with signing up here for some reason? I have been on here for years but never truly started posting except for a couple months ago. I couldn't even tell you how long I had to wait to get approved! :P

Chuck,
Welcome to 6speed glad you are enjoying it. It is a shame so many people on the other list bash 6 speed when they have no clue what it is about. We have more traffic on the 996 tt forum in a day then they have in 2 weeks. Some is fluff like wheels, but some is very informative like the recent discussions regarding greddy boost controllers, suspension setups, etc... |

hey chuck... glad you gave it a chance here. I've met so many new friends as a result of this place. It's got 36 flavors, tech talk, wheel talk, pix, info etc... everything.
|
hello I am also happy to have access to this forum after trying for a long time. It is the best one for TT's that I have come accross. Thanks to all of the positive participants.

I still cant' post pictures....I'm afraid I need some serious OJT and a copy of Posting for Dummies. I joined the photobucket like the suggestion...and cant' get it to work. I emailed the administrator and asked if perhaps it had something to do with my AOL. I know that previously, they didn't let certain web-based mail accounts into the forum. I have a picture of my really neat factory slant that I wanted to put up. WROSS was kind enough to post some pictures of the 996TT for me. Sort of makes me look like a dumb****....but what you see is what you get. Still glad to be here.

Welcome!
