2005 Turbo S Cab - pricing question

Hi all, I am a soon to be new member of the modded Porsche family. I have a line on an '05 turbo S cabriolet with 8k miles. There has been about $30k worth of work done on the motor, supposedly making about 575-600 rwhp, including new turbos, diverter valves, plenum, exhaust, etc. The car is in immaculate shape, and drives just insanely well. The car just had it's 2 year service, and the deal would be at about $90k.

My three concerns are:

1) From reading this forum, it seems like $30k should have bought more rwhp or should have bought some work on the engine internals.

2) Why buy a 2005 when I could get an 2003 or 2004. Also, am I wasting money buying an S?

3) This seems like a good deal to me, but I just don't have the experience to know.

Any help from you experts would be very much appreciated!

The 2005 Turbo S is a low production car and should have Turbo S logos all over the interior of the car. How low, well they made 500 total and 250 were imported to the US. Of that, about 100 were Cabs. If you have a blue, yellow or white one, they are really rare since most of them are black, gray or silver The MSRP of the Turbo S was around $145,000 depending upon options. It should also have PCCB brakes. $30,000 for 600HP is a little out of the whack, but if the car is in good condition and you can get it for under $100,000 buy it!

When i was shopping for my TTS coupe, in the summer, most of the cabs I saw with that kind of mileage, from Porsche dealerships were in the 100-110K range. From what I have seen, mods don't generraly add to the value, but i would think this depends largly on the preferences of the buyer.

You do get a number of things with the 05 TTS that you don't with an 03/04 -- a new car and likley a manufacturer's warranty, a full-leather interior - dash, roof etc. (i did not think this was a big deal, until i recently sat in an 02 C4S with the standard interior), PCCB brakes (awsome), more power, K24 turbos, GT2 ICs, heavier clutch, short shifter, and mixed reports on upgraded transmission and exhaust.

The negatives are - more expensive, and i have also read reports that the K24s lag a little more than K16s - but nothing a flash/exhaust can't fix.

Thank you both so much for your thoughts. It sounds like the car is actually a little more rare than I thought it would be, which might help me with resale down the road. The car does have PCCB brakes, and an all leather interior. I am going to see what I can do to get a few $k more off the price, but you have given me a lot more confidence on the purchase.

I would appreciate any more input people have as this will be the biggest car purchase I have ever made!

$90k seems like a great deal. Do it.

I have a TT S Cab and love it. Anything south of 100K is a good deal.

I'm feeling increasingly convinced. I will be sure to let you guys know what I end up doing. Shockingly, I was only quote $1k per year for insurance. Less than insuring my motorcycle!

My buddy just paid $100K for a 2005 Turbo S Cab.

Your deal sounds like a no brainer.

Good luck,

MK

The S is basically an X50 car with PCCB brakes. The closest you can get to a GT2 in a TT.

Do it.

If the car is truly putting out 600 WHP, it likely has a 700HP kit from someone.

Do you get the stock parts? It's not a deal breaker, but it would be nice.

Not to mention it comes with other things standard, like a nav system and premium sound!

Premium?

Hmmm

I paid 77k for an 04 "s" (an X50 without PCCB) and no mods, 2 months ago. 90 with decent mods is a very good price. The engine warranty will likely not apply given the mods, but other stuff will be covered. (This is why modded cars in warranty sometimes drop in price, less demand due to the loss of warranty.)

Thanks for the great ideas. I hadn't thought about asking for the stock parts. My guess is that they don't have them, but I will check. I also hadn't really considered the warranty issue, though the current owner knows a mechanic at the local dealership who seems to honor warranty repair work. I need to check into this further to fully understand it.

You guys are making it very hard for me to say no to this deal!!

The car is black with grey interior, which seems like a decent color combo. I would have preferred black/black, but I'm still excited about this combo.

I'm getting the hard-top that I'm sure I'll never use in CA, and all the records/nav CDs etc. Anything else before I pull the trigger?

For under a $100K, that is a great deal.

I bought my car last month and I paid a bit more than what you are being quoted. I have almost identical mods as you quoted as well.

The Turbo s is a great car and very fast. Today I raced a 997 TT and a 997 C4S. They both lost and the C4S was not even a challenge. You can download the video at http://www.911turboregistry.com/C4Srace.avi

That's a great price on an '05 Turbo S cab. Go for it.
