Hehe good point. Hey looking at your sig, I gotta take a look at your beast! Bring it by to Akkurat if you can some point. Usually, Doug's, Fred's or my car is there so we can exchange notes:P

BTW, thanks for the tip about having Brian at Akkurat check out the car prior to tracking.
I'm heading up there today actually, to drop off the car and put in a few bits
So if you're free swing by.
NP on Brian. They have all of the tech forms there for the different racing groups and know the drill. Heheh I can't believe mine passed:P

Hi Benjamin,
I didn't rent out the Lap Timer that day unfortunately because in my hands it's never going to be "freakin fast". Let's just say in his stock turbo he was eating up every other car out there. He went faster in mine... I think his lap times are in the low 2minute range around that long 3mile track.
My other friend/instructor Sean (I'll get him to comment on here), who grew up testing/racing Porsches said it was also a very fast and well dialed in track car. Again, it mostly depends on the driver. In my hands, a Honda Civic will beat me down....

sean hall, do you have any pictures of your 2.8 944 turbo?? i used to have one of those a LONNNGG time ago and am still a big fan. do you track it?? what kind of times can it pull around the big track at willow?? is it reliable with the 2.8??? excuse all the questions, but don't see those cars very often anymore and they make great track cars for little money. thanks!

I don't know what the times were since there was no hot lapper or transponder on the car. I can say this though: amongst the field, the only car on the track that could of been faster with the right driver, would of been the 'Cup car. The Cup car is lighter, but Alex's car has almost 2X the power. AWD cars love HP, so I imagine a no 'PMS' hindered time would be in the 'Cup car ball park.

I'm gonna hot-wire the PMS wires. I think I see them there on that wire harness with 679 other wires

Alex, thanks for a great post. Your euphoria is certainly contagious and, having done some high-speed track driving myself, your humility is appreciated and quite understandable. I’ll be tracking my lightly modded tt on Aug. 5th at Infinium (it’s still Sears Point to me) for the first time and, after reading this post, am more impatient and excited than ever to get it on the track. TTs are made to be driven hard. Taking it to the track to learn and experience its potential under proper conditions is one of the real rewards in owning a tt. Thanks for the entertainment and inspiration. Hope to run into you at Akkurat one day.

PS They don't take pix as well as you tho
Thanks Alex. Enjoyed our meeting also, especially seeing that beautiful black beast in person. Good work. Look forward to more meetings at the "old country store". Gotta get that pickle barrel George.
Hehe it's a fun fun car that's for sure and it packs a lot more groceries now that I've taken the spare and tools out:P
I'm sure we'll meet again at the "old country store". They need to get an old school gas pump and some stray hats and dungerees...

Sorry it took awhile to respond. I've been on vactation. Here's some pics: http://www.socalevo.net/forums/modul...view_album.php
I bought the 944 to track it then ended up down the slippery slope of mods, upgrades and prepping it for the track; and subsequently never ended up on the track! So I bought an Evo to quench my track desire until I get the Porsche done... So, in short, I have yet to track it. I used to pull mid 30s in my V5 prepared 914 on the old WSIR track/surface. POCers that were familiar with the old track like I was, tell me the new(er) surface is good for 8-10seconds over the old. So, Im guessing I could be in the mid 20s to high teens with the 944 when I'm done with it. The motor I built is good for 450 to the wheels.
Yeah, I love the 944 too. As far as the handling goes, these cars kick ***. Its hard to beat a car with near perfect weight distribution. I just wish more work was being put into them so ppl like you and I didn't have to do the guess work/R&D. I have yet to see the rock solid solution for building a 2.8L motor. I hope I found it with mine. We'll see. The head goes back on it next week.
Let me know if you have any more questions. I'll respond sooner this time.
