Upgrade Audio System in GT2? Questions....concerns...?

Ok so I dont think I can handle the wortless sound system in the car anymore. I enjoy listening to music as I drive, and the 4 speaker system in the GT2 is pathetic.

For obvious reasons I dont want to go crazy and add tons of weight, I just want something with a little bass. Bass is what is missing right now....does it make sense to add a small woofer, or do I need to upgrade all the speakers.

I am currently running an aftermarket Alpine headunit.

Well I can only assume you have the MOST bus system. In order for you to add a sub you will have to have amp,in order to install an amp you will have to replace the head unit....well you see where I am going with this. Because its a GT2 it wont have the door speakers and your missing allot by not having those. You have to live with what you have if you don't want to change the head unit.

He already has an aftermarket headunit, so I would think that adding a small amp and a small sub would do the trick. If you wanted to add mids and highs, that would probably increase the quality of sound, and you could run them off your headunit.

I had the MOST bus in my car, so I had to take out the headunit. I added a Kenwood DNX7100 double DIN nav unit. I already had the bose subwolfer, so I added a small amp to power that. I replaced all the mids and highs and powered them via the Kenwood headunit. I'm not an audiophile, but I am very impressed with the sound...it is MUCH better than the Bose system.

He stated he has an Alpine deck. You can do whatever you want my friend. Do a nice set of separates in the front doors, get yourself a single 10" sub in a custom enclosure, and use a 4ch. amp to power everything. you will have imaging and good SQ. Stop by your local car audio shop and have a chat with them. Best thing you can do is listen to a couple of different setups. Make sure you like what your purchasing. GL.

Aww I missed that where it said that. Then yup add a amp and a small sub.You can use the stock speakers...they are garbage but they will work.

Thankfully I already have the headunit changed out...although I really am not happy with it. The Ipod controls are a pain in the ***, so I might change it out a second time. We will see.

Any good recommendations for a small amp and sub? Something relatively inexpensive since it is a freakin GT2 and the audio will never be great! Thats why I have the straight pipes

I have a small Rockford Fosgate 300x1 amp powering my OEM Bose subwolfer box. It is very small in size and fits right where the OEM CD changer sat. I would take a couple pics, but my car is at IA at the moment. I would think that either 1 8" or 1 10" sub would do the trick. It would probably have to be mounted on top of the rear deck somewhere. I think if you replaced the mids and highs with a quality setup that would help a lot as well.

My setup doesn't have a lot of bass, but does provide a but more thump than before. I may consider changing out the Bose subwolfers for a setup like John D...he put 2 6.5" subs in the OEM Bose box.

This sub is kinda expensive, but it's totally stealth. Judging by my previous experience with their stuff in my 993, I'd bet it's pretty damn good for the money though.

I had the ones that fit in the footwell of the rear seats. IMO the ones that are on the rear seat tray are dumb.

That is really awesome. Since you have used them before, would you recommend them?

Yeh yeh yeh Martin. I know I will never really be able to enjoy music while in the car. Well that is music besides the sweet sensual sound from the pipes!

Freeway driving gets boring fast and if I dont listen to music I tend to put my foot down and with 600HP I can get in trouble REAL quick

I ended up changing out the entire system, I went with the Kenwood 8019,great ipod controls hands free cell and Nav system!!. I used a JL audio 6450 6 channel amp to power everything. For the speakers I went with MB quarts for the doors, dash and rear. I reworked my factory Bose sub box, i used two 6" focal and dynamatted the box and filled with Dacron.I re wired the entire car with Phoenix gold interconnects, speaker and power cables.
Contact me if I can help you in any way.
