Update on the (3) "Big Dog" Protomotive Cars at the EVENT (TX2K8)
A Woodster's prospective:
Peter A's car:
3.8 ltr with McKenzie Heads and GT35r's
(I rode in it on the highway at Henessey's and drove it to check out the
fancy triple carbon clutch)
These 3.8 liters have a COMPLETELY different sound, wow, very low
disgruntled sound. This car with its combined heads and big turbos flows
more air than any car Proto has built. I rode in it at .9 bar and it would
crush my car in acceleration. Very, Very impressive and due to some
kind of head stud situation, he is running very low boost on it. Eventually when he can run 1.5 bar thru it...LOOK OUT, IMHO it will without question be
the fastest/hardest pulling 996TT built yet.
DrRobMD's car:
3.8 similar build to above without the McKenzie heads:
Let's put it this way: when Paulie Walnuts and myself and Rob lined up
in Mexico on Saturday night, Paulie's car and my car appeared to be so close
it was a driver's race and Rob would let us go and then reel us in in like a couple of bad running mustangs....
. I would hear something akin to a
freight train coming up and then blowing past like I had hit my brakes softly.
(Please keep in mind that this car is not done and still is going to get a "more upgraded fuel system
)
Divexxtreme's Car:
3.6 liter with ported heads, custom grind cams and GT35's
(I apologize if I am not describing these cars accurately).
We all left Tommy Banh's shop and hit the very wide smooth highways of Mexico. I lined up next to Dive for fun and he let me go: Same result as
Dr. Rob's, there is such an incredible differential in power that Scott could crush me easily. The only thing that I notice different about the 3.8 with
McKenzie Heads was that it pulled so long and hard all the way up past 7800 RPM (I have 7200 RPM rev limit) that between shifts it just pulls and pulls and pulls. (Scott also shifts like a monkey on Crack so he really seems to maximize his car). His car sounds just plain ANGRY when it goes by
.
Scott put a serious beat down on a Ford GT with a 3.3 Whipple and had some great runs (with HoustonT's 1000 HP Supra, and Tim's Blue/white stripe
big dog Twin Turbo Viper GTS coupe). Peter's Supra as absolutely fricking VIOLENT when it comes up on boost on the Highway!

My clutch feels like a beefed up stock unit.... I really like it! It has good play but when it grabs under boost it never releases its grip..hmmm very tenacious! Marty, thank you for your comments, you are very generous with your description. If you ever like to come back down for a weekend, just to do some runs in Mexico, you always have a place to crash! OBTW Sean congrats on your 60 to 130 victory but you better watch out for Paulie... he is gunning for ya! Once again, I thank everyone who came to this years Supra Nats and I cant wait for next years!
Have a boosted day!
