This part fell off my car ... should I care?

Hi,

Scratched the front under during parking, then I noticed something dangling under the front of my car  got home, noticed that it seems to be some sort of protective cover and it's broken, so I simply ripped it out

The part number is 996 575 161 01. Should I bother to go to the stealers to replace it?

Thanks.

Just did a search and it seems to be some sort of air duct? USD64 ish ... but stealers would probably charge me 5x

I had the same happen to me. It is an air baffle/diverter; my local dealer replaced the part for 118.00 total US. Good Luck!

if you are only driving your car around town not a big deal. for track duty all should be buttoned up under there for proper air flow and cooling to the correct areas.

I had some parts "fall off" also, so dont feel bad.

Tom did you replace that exact same air duct ( with riviots),or were the new ones w/o rivits?

Highhats 04-29-2008 09:43 AM

I replaced the duct because I believe it diverts air towards the brakes.

S

It was a 15 dollar part I believe.

Pg. 191, Item 10 of the 996 Turbo/GT2 catalog at https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinf...e=MainFrameSet

It helps pull the air to through the front radiator due to a pressure differential.

Man, that sucks. But it reminds me that when I had my old 930 with aero package, every time I would go into a certain church driveway, the bottom would scrape. So the only way to drive in was to go in at an angle and do the same going out. Now, whenver I enter a driveway, I do the same out of habit.

that duct is the RS Cup duct upgrade. if you get an upgraded brake duct and it isnt two parts rivioted like that you have the wrong one. no hard to do as several versions are out there, the one pictured above is the correct one.

I'm going through this same thing.

Jeff at Sunset has ordered a set for me with these part numbers:
996.341.117.90 GT3Cup left
996.341.118.90 GT3Cup right

He is going to let me know if they are the ones with the riveted lower section before they ship to me.

PAULIEWALNUTS 04-30-2008 02:45 PM

They are not.I have been dealing w/ ric @ Suncoast and so far no luck finding the ducts w/rivets.Please pm me if you have any luck.

I just got word from Jeff @Sunset that these are the ones with the rivets. His words, "These bad boys do have rivets on them just as you said. Pretty sizeable ducts too." I guess I'll really find out when I get them. I told him to get another set or two because people were looking for them. I'll reply when I get them.

End of story: fixed it at dealer for 13000 yen.
