POLL: Morality Question re New Car Sale (What's Your Opinion?)

This is all made up, uh, yea yea that's the ticket...

Say you're about to buy a new Porsche from a dealer, you're about to sign on the dotted line when you find out from someone else that said car already has had its warranty clock rolling for 2.5 months, for whatever reason. The selling dealer/salesperson never told you this, nor was it on any paperwork they sent you to seal the deal. Essentially there are only 45.5 months of warranty remaining. Because of this you back out of the deal.

Should you:

a. Be pissed & buy elsewhere.
b. Be pissed & report to PCNA.
c. What's 2.5 out of 48 months? 5% of warranty? No big deal, even if they didn't tell you.
d. Dealer should be pissed at you for not buying, this is no reason to back out of a purchase.

i would do none of the above.

I would tell them i would only take the car if they'd knock another few grand off the price. if not i'd walk

Depends on the car and the deal. Need more info. :)

Although this is of course theoretical, wink wink, I did tell them that if I were to follow through with the purchase I would want at least $1k off per month of missing warranty. Of course then I would wonder if perhaps the car had also been wrecked and they weren't telling me that? I wouldnt want to buy from a dealer I couldn't trust, so I would back out and look elsewhere.

I'll PM anyone details who wants them, btw.

Perhaps it was purchased by a speculator and is being flipped through the dealership. It might still be a "new" car, but b/c it was purchased the dealership activated the warranty. I guess it took them 2.5 months to adjust the price to find a buyer. Use it as a negotiation point, especialy since trust is essential in sales and they did not tell you this up front. If not resolved to your satisfaction, take your dough and look elsewhere.

Point is, if they were upfront about the warranty clock ticking it would be fine. But they never said anything about it, not on the sales invoice or anything. I probably wouldnt have known about it until I brought it in for warranty worth 46 months from now when I'd be out of warranty!

What do you mean by "warranty clock rolling for 2.5 months"?

Does that mean you are buying a "new" car, but acually, you would already be 2.5 months into the warrenty?

Exactly. The car would essentially have 45.5 months remaining on the warranty.

Personally, I would not care, however, I believe that if someone did care, it is their right too, as the dealership should disclose this info...

And BTW, what car is this "friend" buying?

GT3

It's not a new car. It's a used car.

Well, that sounds a little bit like fraud to me.
