Conti 315/25/19's are in...

Tire Rack sent me an email on Thursday that my order which I placed a few weeks earlier has shipped-. According to their site they now have the hard to obtain sizes in stock:

Conti Sport Contact 2 315/25/19 for $328 per tire for the rears

and

Conti Sport Contact 2 235/35/19 for $222 per tire for the fronts

I hope this info helps other board members.

Keith:)

Thanks for sharing. I just ordered two of them just to have has backup for next blowout.

I recently read that the 997 will be fitted with 19's. Just as I predicted given Porsche's history. Correct me if I am wrong but there are only two tires in 19 inch that work with our setups, the Conti's noted above and the Yokohama AVS Sport (Not DOT Rated, only TUV rated).

Ken as far as I know you are right. I think Michelin will be coming out witha tire as well soon.

wow!! thanks - those prices are sooooo much better, I may just have to buy a spare set!!

I figured most board members would react to this great news since i recalled some paying as much as $700 for one rear tire.

I am glad to hear, ordered mine last week, thought I haven't gotten a call yet to tell me they are ready. Maybe this is because I deal with Tire Rack Wholesale (I am a dealer):). I got even better prices ;) . I would hook u guys up with good prices, but honestly there isn't much in tires, I only get about 5-10% off.

According to Doug Brown of Michelin MS, the Michelin tire is out. I believe Claus, the owner of CEC Wheels has a set on his Techart GT street.

what is the consensus on the Continental versus the Yoko's? Is anyone riding the conti's right now?

KPV Sep 1, 2003 11:08 AM

Maxwell,
I am sure you will get varied opinions. I do not have any experience with Continentals but I know many people like them. I seem to recall they have a center solid tread rib, aka Pirelli P Zero's. This is said to increase straight line tracking ability.
I run the AVS Sports and like them. I have always liked Yokohamas. The V tread pattern for water evacuation is importanat to me and the AVS's are pretty agressive in this regard.
I have AVS's on my TT, AVS's on my VehiCROSS and Parada's on my MINI. I am not sure what is on the Ducati.....hmmmmm. Gonna have to look at that.

cjv,
Is there a link to the new Michelins? I would like to see the tread pattern.

I think a few have the Conti's on already. I have the Conti's and have also had the AVS' on for a few weeks. Although I don't drive the car aggressively enough to give you good info on the tires performance.

I do like the way the 315 conti "fit" the 11" wheel better than the way the 315 AVS fit the same wheel. The AVS "looks" like it has to stretch too much to meet the rim and the rim is entirely exposed.

KPV Sep 1, 2003 11:11 AM

Doug,
Hmmmmmm. I am running the AVS 315/25/19's on 11.5" rims and the sidewall is essentially vertical.

Is the new Michelin the Pilot Sport 2 (PS2) tire in 19" config ? How about some Pilot Sport Cups in 19!

After driving the Pilot Cups for a few days...I don't think I can go back! :)

I think the new Yoks seem to have a different sidewall, they aren't so stretched as the old version. Either that or HRE has designed the new lips differently.

Even so, I don't really mind the look as more concerned about the performance.;)
