How does the 996TT compare to a 997GT3RS? considering a swap, but havent driven a GT3
wondering, what anyone's opinion is that has either driven/owned/or compared them both.
I recognize that the GT3 is more of a track car with street pads and such on it...and my quattro qualifies as the same (cage, super stiff and low, etc.), so i dont know if its overkill or if im not going to want to drive either of them on the street much due to it being painful to be in for more than an hour or two. But the 997RS is just sick looking and if its not even a comparison as to how outstanding the GT3 is, I may have to consider trading for one.
I assume the value wouldnt drop quite the same on the GT3 as it has on the 996TT as well?
Also/lastly - it seems like most of the prices i have ssen for them are in the 180+ range...i thought they stickered quite a bit lower than that...are they that rare that they command well above sticker?
...Gonna x-post this in the GT3 forum too.
Thanks for any thoughts/your 2 cents.

Compare with 997GT3, our TT feels very soft. Even my TT is running H&R coilover and 19", After 30 min in the GT3, I feel like driving a limo in my TT. I've love the whole set up with GT3, NA, high rev, suspension setup ... You have to test drive it to believe how good they are.
For the resale value, I do expect GT3s hold value better than Turbos. But when you compare your 01 TT and 997GT3RS, I can't see a 01 TT selling at $20k in 3 years, but is easy to lost $50K in a $180K RS especially there is a face lift testing at the track, just my 0.2 cents.

If i had the opportunity i'd take the 7 RS in a heart beat and never ever look back.

I own both--- a 2002 996 Turbo that I ordered new and a 2007 GT3--and they're both great cars. Turbo is def quieter/easier to drive and of course has the torque (mine has Orton 'stg 1' ECU, JIC/Cross coilovers and B&M shifter). Even with these performance upgrades (all of which are necessary IMO), it does not compare to the GT3. You really have to drive one to believe it. At first I wasn't sure...had driven my TT for 6 years so it was different. Once I got use to being in a lower gear and using the revs, it is intoxicating. It handles better-by far-than the TT; turn-in and steering response is years ahead of the TT, yet it rides much better. Throttle response is immediate and amazing (if I drive the TT after it seems like forever to respond). Also, although the Turbo has that MIGHTY thrust from the torque, it peaks and stays at that level; the GT3, with less torque, just keeps pulling. I always feel like the TT is faster, then I look down at the speedo in the 3 and find I am 10 mph faster on the same section of road. I do want to run them side-by-side (paging heavychevy ?!), I think it will be closer than most imagine (though I expect the turbo to win a drag race)...on every other count--looks, handling, braking, ride, suspension, ****er/tranny and most importantly SOUND--the GT3 wins by a mile.
If I've had a bad day and have 30 minutes to myself, I ALWAYS pick up the keys to the GT3.
Hope that helps...

I had the 997 GT3 and 996 TT. Both are great cars, but the GT3 is truly a driver's car. As mentioned above, the GT3 wins in many respects. However, they are two totally different cars. If you don't track your car, I think that the GT3 will be overkill, as you'll never get close to the potential of that car on the street. If you do track your cars, the GT3 is an amazing machine.
On a day to day basis, especially in the rain, the turbo is a hard car to beat.
