I) Last car before 996TT & II) Any regrets on cars you've passed on

What did you have before getting your 996TT? Do you miss it?
I had a 2002 6sp Carrera which I really enjoyed and miss somewhat. But, the car I've missed the most as compared with a subseqent purchase was my my 1997 M3 which I stupidly sold to "upgrade" to a 1998 540i. This was back in 2000.

Somewhat related, are there any cars you passed on that you regret?
I passed on a 1997 993TT that an aquaintance of mine was selling for low $50Ks last year. It was in great condition but with 61K miles, I thought that was too much. It was black and the paint was beginning to show its age with chips and a few scratches here and there - all in all probably not a big deal.

I also had an opportunity to acquire a 97 F355 in perfect condition last year in what would have been a very easy transaction from a stand-up seller. I still have some regrets about that ... well, until I hear about others' experiences with the big ticket service bills!

Prior to buying my GT2 I had a '96 993TT... I miss that car badly. It was Black/Tan with about 44k on it when I sold it for $67,500 in Oct of 2005. Had some well planned mods and was a great all around car for track and street. I really miss the 'old' body style, looks and nostalgic Porsche feel of the 993 regardless of how fast and raw my GT2 is.

I leased a '97 M3 and loved it, but opted not to buy it when the lease came up. I missed it so much I bought another '97 M3 several years later, but it just wasn't the same. It hadn't been cared for like my old M3, and I ended up selling it. I still wish I had that original M3...

I miss my E46 M3 terribly (was heavily modified but even with just coilovers, brake kit and tiny stuff done I still do)

I kind of regretted it when I got my turbo, both were just so different and awesome, but the M3 was to me a 10x more fun driving experience.

Well now I have my GT2, and it's what I should have progressed onto from the M3 to start, not an AWD turbo! Still miss the M though!

I actually had 2 M3s - a 95 and a 97. Neither would be considered powerful cars by today's standards, but they were so much fun!

Martin,

you are scaring me bud. I just did the deal for a turbo and i'm saying good bye to one hell of an M3. Hope I don't have any regrets.

Listen man, it will be one hell of a driving experience, but unfortunately you will understand where I am coming from ;)

I miss my 2000 E39 M5 which I traded for my E60 M5. That was a great car...plenty of room, beautiful color (LeMans Blue), and an awesome interior with the blue and black 2-tone scheme.

It only had 400HP, but it had gobs of torque from any RPM. It was an awesome daily driver as well. I often consider buying another one.

Seems like you guys miss your BMW M-cars as well.

Only car i regret selling was a 2001 E39 M5 that i purchased with 12,000 miles and in perfect condition, silverstone w/ black....i traded it in 6 months later for $32,000.00 WTF was I thinking?!?!?!?!

I had an 03 Evo that Switzer built and tuned for me (clean ride and sold with just under 4000miles on her)...on the 40R turbo it made over 700 on C16 and here is a vid of the ride with the detuned version and a 35R turbo. Made 627awhp on pump...I sold her to dk996tt...he has quite the collection!

I had a 2003 Lambo Murcielago and don't miss it , My TT is a far better overall car.

This car is a perfect combo between reliablility , confort and speed.

What did you like/not like about the Lambo? I've thought of Murcielagos as being in a completely different league.
