Strange Sound - Not DV's
I have a strange, unidentifiable sound coming from my car...
When I give the car full throttle I hear a honking noise from about 2,700 - 3,200 RPM's. It is not like a singular "honk" but more like the faint sound of a train or 18 wheeler passing by at high speed blowing their horn. The techs tell me it is certainly not what bad diverter valves sound like (and mine have already been replaced). Also, my car is chipped (Upsolute) and since I have noticed this sound it is no longer achieving spurts to 1.2 bar, but maxing out at 0.9. And it does not feel as responsive. The tech's are telling me the sound is coming from the drivetrain, and they are replacing some bearings (or something) connecting to the front axle. I just can't believe this is the problem. The techs are also telling me the drop in boost could be due to the summer temperatures in Dallas, but I find that much of a difference hard to believe. Any others experience this, suggestions? |
Sounds like boost leak. We all need to buy a good set of hard piping.

I had the same sound between the rpms you described. It was not a honking sound, but more of a moaning sound. Turned out to be the diverter valves. I replaced the OEM units with Baileys and the sound disappeared and response improved.
