Woodster's Top Secret Mustang AWD dyno...

Well, yesterday on one of the hottest days of the year, I drove down
to the Mustang AWD dyno in town. (see separate thread about how I
"babied it" on the way down there; racing a SuperCharged GTO).

Mustang AWD dyno:
temp on Dyno's computer screen was 93 degrees and we were all
sweating pretty bad in that room.
2 carpet fans (one blowing on each intercooler), because they
did not have a third fan for the front of the car.
19" Michelin PS2's and run in 4th gear

1.4 bar runs up to 7000 rpm

first run == 490 AWHP and 534 AWTQ

second run == 485 AWHP and 534 AWTQ (thanks to Todd's BIG
intercoolers, almost no power loss)

This matched their highest HP fully built STI with a GT40 on it.

The funny thing is, I look at other Mustang Dyno results including
AWE's 997TT 700 kit dynod 110 AWHP more than mine:rolleyes:
and went 185 at the TX Mile:eek:),and others too.
and think that dynos are pretty funnyhilarious. dont you?;)

Unlike most others, I did not wait for the best conditions or stack the
deck in any way in my favor. You all can see my other signature numbers
and know that the car makes "decent power". I will also be dynoing my car
at my friends new dynojet on the same day as several of my buddies cars
and we will see how they compare and we already know how they compare on the street. I will keep you posted on that!

It seems your car is putting down more than that just from your posted times.
134 trap speed seems would require more hp.Go figure.
I will have to dyno mine in the upcomming weeks.I should have at least 290 hp at the crank.hilarious.
All that really matters is putting the smackdown on Jitsu.

So your saying you were running 2 bar at the Texas Mile......hilariousseriously though,i understand and that's why i don't post dynos......my car made some pretty good power on a Mustang recently .........but I would rather wait to see how she runs first because i feel that is a better indicator.Joe

Wow, I heard Mustang dynos were stingy but 490?

That would make Scrooge proud.

houstonT Aug 22, 2008 12:50 PM

Marty, something is very wrong there....that trap speed and dyno number does not compute (as you already know).

john d dynoed similar numbers but on 1.1 boost...
yea the numbers seem low...even with considering the hot conditions.

regardless your cars power is indicated in its trap speed which is great and yes dynos can be misleading obviously.

Marty,

That's just about exactly where I was in 100 degree weather with massive humidity, so it seems right.

Tony explained to me that with cooler weather, race fuel and higher boost - this number quickly turns into 560-590 AWHP and 700 or better crank HP. He also said on a cooler day the car would have made well over 500 AWHP on the same dyno at the 1.1 bar we were running, as all cars were down about 25 HP due to the extremely hot, humid weather that week. I agree - let the on road performance numbers speak for themselves, as dyno HP does not neccessarily translate to the fastest car in a straight line. Actual on road performance depends where the car makes the peak HP and how quickly it drops off. For instance, if your peak HP is very low and when you shift at redline, you are on it or past it, then you do not get the full benefit of it. I think that is why the K24/18G's are so fast on the street - we were making peak HP at 6500 RPM's and climbing, but the dyno stopped measuring at 6500 - it may have made more power at 6800 RPM's...

We are doing another dyno tune in a few weeks, as we had to tune in 100 degree weather, which is not ideal. I'll let you know the difference...

Good stuff guys,

I was actually quite shocked even knowing that A) it was on a Mustang,
B) it was hotter than ****, and C) my car makes more power to the good ole pavement
than that.
This is one stingy dyno!!!
I dont take it too seriously, (obviously) or I wouldnt have posted it.
I will dyno this year at TX2K9 for the world to see. LOL!

You would be surprised what this car will would make in a 30 degree cooler room...

Marty - try a few 3rd gear pulls next time as well.

I think 290 is a little high considering the way the good Dr seems to have your #. hilarious

Dyno #'s are for the bench racers. Different dynos - different days - different conditions. What does it all mean. Run the car at the track or Mexico and get the #'s that mean something in the real world.

I put in a heel/toe gas pedal, a matching dead pedal. I have the remote for the exhaust butterflies. I have a Callaway CAI. PS2s soon to be Nitto Invos. I have some really cool leather pieces with orange stitching to install and some sweet race seats going in.

Those are the tweaks I am talking about.hilarious

134 mph trap speed should definitely be more than 490 at the wheels. real world results are the only true measure of power. and i agree, so many people wait for perfect conditions and pull out all the stops to get a glory dyno sheet. what good is that if you can't run that on the street? and to make matters worse, if you get spanked by a car making far less power, you really start looking stupid.

Highhats Aug 23, 2008 06:06 AM

wow hope you called todd up to be like wtf haha. I mean no offense woodster but EPLs 5k k16/16g kit puts down that power on a mustang SAE on pump gas. Dyno numbers or not I think u arent making what you should or what you did when u went 185. I believe EPL saw similar numbers on a 700 kit up here. Makes me now totally believe how Chris Green Pulled on the 997tt gt30 car. GL but I think your down on power. I wouldnt use the Heat as an excuse for factor like SAE and corrections fix the number for these exact situations.

PAULIEWALNUTS Aug 23, 2008 06:34 AM

Suman ,Marty went 191 at the mile not 185.Maybe EPL will have a car there this year to do a comparision.
