996 TT Audio Speaker upgrade suggestions

I am considering changing out the factory speakers to something else (better.)

What are your success stories? Trying to keep it simple, but the current system sounds horrible. I tend to leave it off and just listen to the engine.

I was thinking slipping in some bigger Focals, but don't know if that's easy.

Thoughts? Experiences?

TIA!

01-01 not fiber optic so much more simple.

03 and up you will need to switch it all out (head unit, amp, speakers)

which year do you have?

Did you have to change wiring too? How much to change over to a decent system. I do have to Bose too...Junk...

2004 (I think it's Bose) - are you saying the connection between the amps to the speakers is not copper? Really? I must be misunderstanding.

I switched mine all out to Focal speakers... noticeable improvement..

on an 03 and newer you will need to change headunit, amp, and speakers. wiring doesnt have to change since after the wires going from the amp to the speakers are regular wires.
however headunit to factory amp there is a fiber optic cable. in addition the factory amp pushes the bose speakers which have a abnormal impedance.. (i think 8 ohm whereas regular speakers are 4).

on 03 and newer if you want a decent sound system, done the right way, you would have to get a new headunit, new amp, new speakers.

on 01, 02 you could just swap the amp/speakers.

MB Quart or Focal is a very nice speaker for our cars.

+1..So far it is really a nice speaker.

All six?

I have 2 8" subs in a box slightly bigger than the bose (about twice as high) driven by a 480? watt amp. Really fills in the low end and allows you to turn down the bass to the stockers.

So what is the correct size? 5.25" or 6.5"?

I went out to take off the grills and realized they're all Torx, and I'll now have to go add to my tool collection, but in the meantime I would go ahead and order the Focals (on sale!) if I knew the size. Thanks!
