What was your first car - Pictures
When I was 15 years & 8 months I bought my first car. I started out early with a rear engined, flat 6 cylinder, 4-speed, bucket seats and air cooled - what more could a teenager ask for...

1972 911T. It needed a little cosmetic work and through restoring it and subseqently owning it, I developed a bond with the 911. I've had 6 since...

My first car was a 1973 Pontiac Lemans. My dad took a side job doing sheetrock in a guy's basement to buy it for me. It was a boat of a car, and I couldn't afford the gas for it at 16. Example link below, but mine was white and four door!
http://www.hemmings.com/users/143475/ride/579.html Six months later I bought a 1973 Toyota Celica Coupe that I simply loved! Mine was silver and mostly stock... I consider this my first real "sportscar" since I took out the loan, made the purchase, and made the 'rents real unhappy! http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/310greg.htm hilarious Mike Mike |

14 years old, Nixon was president, and I bought a 1960 Plymouth Valiant from a friend for $7 bucks. It was just like this one, although this is a little nicer....
When driving it home, a leaf spring broke so I propped up the axle with a fence post I tore out of the side of the road and slid in over top of the rear axle. Drove it as a field car for a year until my mother had it towed away to a junkyard because she thought it was an eyesore. My friends were all envious of the typewriter drive. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...vo/valiant.jpg |

Great thread Rich! Like most of us here I was a car nut long before I could drive. Although I learned on a handed down 1971 Olds Cutlass S Holiday Coupe, I could not wait to dump that heavy boat and get a real sports car. I saved my money, constantly scanned the classifieds and found a 1972 MGB. One test drive and I was sold on it's amazing handling. I don't have any pics handy, but here is a very similar one I found with the help of Google:

During my senior year of high school I saved up some money and went out and bought a $1600, '74 Jeep CJ-5 with 34" BF goodrich mud terrains, 7" lift kit, cherry bomb mufflers, KC lights everywhere, CB radio, and a stero with a 12" woofer under the back seat.
My parents took one look at that thing and offered to buy me a respectable car or told me to park the jeep down the street. So I drove it around (and parked it down the street) for the summer and when it was time to go to college, they bought me a brand new '88 Acura Integra RS. As soon as I got to school, I got one of those credit cards they give away to students and quickly maxed it out on 15" wheels with 195/50-15 tires and a panasonic car phone. I've been spending money on cars ever since. |
