Ashtray won't stay closed???

I know this is not a big issue, but my ashtray lid doesn't stay closed. I only use it every now and then to hold my cell phone, but it's a bit annoying that I have to take out the ashtray, close the lid and hold it open while squeezing the sides of the base to keep it closed. Then I put it back in the console by pushing on the rear edge so that it doesn't open again while putting it back in.

Does anyone know if there is some way to "tighten" the locking pin hinge device (which is what I'm doing when I squeeze the sides of it)? I've seen CF ashtray tops for sale on eBay, so there must be some way of separating the top and bottom components.

I figure if I can get the lid to stay closed, it would probably be good for another 15hp!

Mine does the same thing, but I think the car goes faster when it is open! Gets more air or something.

Get the smoker's delete package - this includes a compartment without a lid to fit in the console.

I think it's much nicer than the ashtray/lid...

BTW, the weight reduction is also good for another 20 AWHP

I agree with RiA and it's what I did on mine with the GT3 center console delete too.

GT3 console delete AND the non-smoker's tray! That's got to be good for at least 50 hp at the crank.

Can you snap a pic of it? Bumperplugs does not have one and I would like to see! Oh and a copy of the dyno results after the "mod"

drlaw99 -- without a pre-mod dyno (preferably with open and closed ashtray lids), the post-mod dyno with the smoker delete tray is meaningless!

True, however, my car is a coupe which of course means that, if you really want to be precise, I would need to also dyno with windows up and windows down.

What I did was remove the ash tray completely and I'm serious when I say that after everythng in that area was completed, the car really did have considerably more power.

Of course in place of the ash tray, there now resides the display and controls for an HKS boost controller.
