Anyone removed the dash trim piece (back/top dash near security light)

I need to remove and replace the dash trim piece on top of the dash next to the windshield, behind the speakers, that has the security light clipped onto it.

I circled the piece I'm referring to:

Has anyone ever removed this?

Do they just pop out? What all is involved? I'd like to replace mine w/ carbon fiber ones...

They just pop out, but not that easily. You have to remove the A pillar trim first, as well as the side defrost vents. It is a little daunting, because you have to put a fair bit of pressure on them to get the clips to pop. By the way vbzatty, if you are looking to replace them with factory cf pieces, keep in mind a lot of people (myself included) have had the cf separate from the trim.

This is exactly what happened to me and why I ask the question.

Did you replace yours with black? Or another set of CF/Leather ones?

I got some really cheap cf ones off ebay (70.00 for both, new in the box), otherwise I would have gone with black ones. I replaced them last year, and so far they haven't delaminated, but if (when) they do, I will go with black.

I actually am going to pull the trim pieces and ship them to a place that will "fake carbon fiber" laminate them. I had my H2 done this way and it looked ALMOST as good as the real thing. They can do almost anything and is much less expensive.
