Very interested to see the CF roof. Does the windshield have to be removed to install?

From what I've been told, yes.

I'm quite sure both the front and rear glass has to be removed to do the roof, great time to install lexan replacements as well.

Tom - have you considered going standalone with a custom harness and cluster ? I'm sure a TON of weight could be found in doing this since you've gone this far, it would also give you progressive boost control and track mapping / data logging within the ECU.

yes but the front and back windows are coming out to replace with lexan anyway.

Just wanted to update everyone.

We're expecting the new roof by the end of the week. In the meantime, we're busy making the tower plates and getting all the measurements done to start bending the bars for the cage. As one is measuring another is removing more and more from the car. As soon as I can spend a few minutes out in the shop (uninterrputed), I'm going to start weighing everything I can. We plan on having the car ready mid-April for a shake down and then Tom will be good to go for May. I'll post pictures when there's more progress made. Once the car is completely stripped, we'll weigh it again (just to see how much we took out). The shop is all a buzz with this project underway! Stop by and take a look if your ever in the area. See some of you at the 12 Hr on Saturday!!

Sara

Tom,

Get a sequential if your are in there anyway...two exist for our cars afaik, one German (not sure of name) and the other is by Oakley in England.... To level the cup car field...you still clutch.

I really don't think it was a matter of "if", but more like "when". Congratulations on going for it Tom, more power to you! It's always great to see another "Doc" make it, and you couldn't be in better hands. I can't wait to see you run again at Sebring, maybe April with Chin?

BTW, I am pretty sure that I owe Sara a beer, or was it cider (what kind again)? Hope to see you ALL at Sebring this weekend (we will be at turn 1, PM me for details).

I don't know if Tom still plans to drive this car on the street occasionally but a true sequential would make that difficult. I don't know about the Oakley. A box with straight-cut gears, although annoyingly noisy on the street, can make for some pretty fast shifts. See this clip.

I have a feeling Tom will get a sequential eventually. His car isn't street driveable anymore. He's got no seatbelts, lexan windows and no airbags and loud straight pipes with a giant wing on a bright yellow car with words all over it.

That would be were he to get pulled over.

"Excuse me officer, how many citations??"

If he takes it back on the street again he may be getting close to the point where he can outrun the police radios.

I cant possibly see how any of the above mentioned mods would make the car no street legal lol

6-point harnesseas are not DOT approved in FL or GA. I believe he is removing the OEM ones. I also think there is a problem in that he will have non-standard windshield material. I believe DOT wants the glass that forms little pieces when it is broken and not shards that can puncture precious body parts.

In all seriousness, does anyone have any info on disabling the airbag light if you remove any of the airbags? Considering an aftermarket steering wheel.
