996TT Carbon Roof Conversion

Has anyone done the carbon fiber roof conversion from GMG. I am on the fence but am worried about any structural issues or leaks or if this would hurt the already soft value of these cars.

Here is the info: GMG Carbon Fiber Roof Conversion for 997 and 996 models

GMG introduces its fully carbon replacement roof panel for all 996 and 997 models. This conversion saves upto 45 lbs on sunroof equipped cars and up to 25 lbs of non sunroof cars.
This is a fully functional and fully structural replacement roof panel.
Professional installation is required and available at GMG.

Fitment: 997 and 996 models *please specify upon order

jmenge is on a distinguished road
Anyone know the price on something like this? Looks awesome and I'd love to ditch the sunroof.

I didn't know GMG offered that. I'm interested in what they are charging for the conversion. Also are they re-inforcing it in any way?

GMG wants $1580 for the panel and you would need a new headliner and labor. It's a great place to save weight and get rid of the sunroof but I'm worried about cutting up the car.

Do you only need a new headliner if you have a factory sunroof car or if you've got a no-sunroof car no need ?

I would think you'd only need a new rooflining if the car had a sunroof originally.
Also the carbon roof will bond on to the vehicle in the same way an M3 csl does from the factory. This is as strong, if not stronger, as the factory spot welds on the metal original roof skin
cheers Neil

Correct, no cutting needed, or at least for most of them. You can simply bolt the center section off and on and replace it. I don't know what will hold the headliner up now, but you would need another if you have a sunroof likely anyways.

There are CF GT3 cup roofs available from Getty Design too, Tom Kerr is getting one and I'm anxiously awaiting his approval before getting one myself. The GMG one looks like it might be more pretty though based on that picture though I've never seen either in person.

Sorry, I dont have fotos... I really dont take much fotos of my car... sorry but I am certain Akram has several fotos when he took the old roof off and put on the CF roof. It really looks good but saved like 40 pounds :-)
