What track wheels and tires are you using?
 

What wheels and tires are you guys using on the track? What is the largest shaved tire or slick you can put on the tt?

A safe choice is stock wheels....
 

A safe choice is stock wheels, and for stick, the arguable best
are Hoosiers. For a stock car without rolling fenders, you'd
want:

tire spec tread width diameter
P245/35ZR-18 9.2 24.5
P285/30ZR-18 10.9 24.6

If you roll the rear fenders, and get the offset of the
rear tire correct, you can run

P245/40ZR-18 9.3 25.3
P305/30ZR-18 11.8 25.6

I am concerned with the difference in diameters in this
latter pair of tires, but some do run them.

If you want the tires to last longer, and are willing to give
up some stick, the Pilot sport cups and Corsas are available,
though I am not as familiar with their sizes.

Currently running Stock 996TT Hollow Spokes with Pilot Sport Cups in stock TT sizes.

I do likewise. The stock hollow spokes are excellent track wheels--light but strong and that's what you want.

On Hoosiers, you can run 245/40 on the front and 305/30 on the rears.

Warning--you may rub through your rear fender liners. That happened to mine, and a few friends I know. Others have not had that issue.

I do recall someone saying you can move/bend the brackets that hold the fender liners in to gain some clearance in the inside lower corner where the 305's rub through, but I've not tried that so I don't know.

The Hoosiers definitely stick better than the MPSC's, but definitely don't last as long. So the MPSC's are a better choice, IMHO.

When you guys are referring to stock hollows, is that the sport techno wheel? Or did Porsche make the other wheels hollow also after 2001

In prior racecars, I've run Hoosiers (very sticky, but loose max grip after two days), Goodyear GSCs (only ran them once, were ok), Toyos (pretty sticky and hold near max grip until the cord shows), Kumhos (pretty sticky, and last 4 race days at max grip), Yokohamas (similar to Toyos in terms of wear, but less grippy).

Don't know if they make these in sizes for the TT, but I think the following are the two best "compromise" (longevity vs. max grip) tires:

Kumho Victoracer or Excsta
Toyo Proxies RA1

I've never tried the Cups, but I am told that they are not as sticky as Kumhos, but last a long time. I intend to try them on the street car (the 996tt) once the stockers wear out. I'm still running Kumhos on the race car (bimmer), but may switch to Toyos at mid season. There's not enough competition out here to warrant going to a new set of Hoosiers every weekend. Usually good, consistent driving and a compromise tire does just fine in regional races.

Your mileage may differ, of course. :)

I am using the Michelin Cups with Fiske FM10's. The tires are 265/35's front and 315/30's rear. The Fiske are 9.5" front and 12" rears.

Lou - After the first few 01 cars, Porsche made the standard TT wheels with hollow spokes...(strangely enough, the GT2 does not come with hollow spoke wheels!!)

not so strange about GT2s getting solids...
 

That is likely because the solids are stronger, and Porsche
presumed that GT2s might be hammered harder than the
average 996tt.
