What boost should my car be running at WOT...

I have a standard(non-x50) turbo. SO far, my only mods are an exhaust, diverter valves, and an airfilter.(still haven't gotten around to pulling my ecu) My highest bar only has gone up to .7 bar. I only sustain .6 bar at long stretches, and .7 every now and again, but never sustained. I thought the standard turbo should pull .8 and the X50 1.0. Can anyone elaborate.

Your max boost will depend on many factors such as air temp, octane used, etc. I've seen as high as 0.9 bar running 100 octane on a cool night.

0.7 is about normal for a non-x50 stock car...sometimes will be able to hit 0.8 bar when you hit it in the "sweet spot."

my X50 would usually hit .8 and with the Stage 3 I'm good for 1.1

Perfectly normal -- no worries. ;)

A non X50 normal boost 0.7 - 0.8, sounds fine to me.

What is normal max boost for an X-50?

Thanks

Try putting in 100 Octane

In the heat here in AZ, I was running about the same boost you are... until today that is... I filled up with 101 Octane and saw a pretty significant increase from .7 to a solid .8 and even touched a .9; all within 40 miles of filling up.

If you have the chance... try putting some 100 octane in and see if your boost increases. I'll bet it does.

.9, with perhaps the occasional spike of 1.0 bar

Thanks everyone for responses. BTW, is it safe to say, an X50 car would always have about .20 boost more than my non X50 turbo?

LSM, I think you mean 0.2 more ;)

YSITSMN 09-17-2003 08:08 PM

I live at 7000 feet and it is nice and cold up here at night But on pump gas I am gunning 0.8-0.9 with a spike at 1.0. I had a 2000 S4 that on cold nights and 100oct I spiked at 1.8 and ran a steady 1.6 bar.

Lou -- I should have posted this earlier in response to your question. Here's the Boost Curve (#1) for the standard Turbo according to Porsche. Your car is performing perfectly normal.

.20 and 0.2 are exactly the same, 20/100 and 2/10 is the same.

Jack, nice curve, but the boost 'units' seem a bit off. They are about 2x what they should be.

1600 hPA = ~23 psi or 1.6bar

Weird. Any ideas?

The deal with that is that it's hPA absolute pressure.
You have to subtract the ambient atmospheric pressure
to get boost. (I think)
